The Danube:A River Guide is just what its name says: a mile-by-mile description of the towns, cities, ruins . The book covers the full length of the Danube, hence more than our route. This book is a nice companion to your principal travel book.

The Danube:A River Guide is just what its name says: a mile-by-mile description of the towns, cities, ruins, locks, sights, etc. along the Danube as you cruise (or paddle down the river, if you prefer)down the river. It is more detailed in riverside minutia than most of the big name travel books (FODORS, et. a., and it tends to give you more of a sense of the river if you are taking a river cruise down the famed river.

A fantastic book is a must read for anybody interested in the danube river. Although published in 1990 this remains an excellent guide to the waterway

The Danube:A River Guide is just what its name says: a mile-by-mile description of the towns, cities, ruins, locks, sights, etc. along the Danube as you cruise (or paddle down the river, if you prefer)down the river. It is more detailed in riverside minutia than most of the big name travel books (FODORS, et. al.), and it tends to give you more of a sense of the river if you are taking a river cruise down the famed river. In 2011, my son and I traveled from Nuremberg am Main to Passau, where we joined the Danube and proceeded down the beautiful Danube with stops at Passau (to see Salzburg), Regensburg, Melk Abbey, the Danube Gorge, Darnstein, Vienna, and ending in Budapest. The book covers the full length of the Danube, hence more than our route. This book is a nice companion to your principal travel book.

This is an older book but has a lot of information on cities along the Danube for people planning a river cruise.

The book is fine and what I ordered. It's a little dated information, but probably as described on Amazon.
Jox
Perfect for our river cruise.
Ynye
very old pub date
Unereel
Great content, but out of date.

What may not be obvious without the book in hand, is that it was intended for the (British) boat enthusiast as an anchorage and journey companion. Its early date, compared to today's rapid changes, diminishes its current value. Unlike the guides for cyclists, hikers and other river tourists (who will all enjoy Eames' recent "Blue River, Black Sea") this book makes no attempt at historical depth or panoramic sweep. Still, for its narrow purpose, it may be useful for its intended audience.
Book will be great for upcoming Danube cruise!
