I like the stories, but, mainly, I empathize with the characters and want them to survive. Always a great page turner.

Street Smart is the eighth stand-alone novel by American author, Tara Taylor Quinn. After fleeing Italy and the cot-death of her newborn baby, Francesca Witting returns to Sacramento to find her widowed mother distraught at the absence of her teenaged sister, Autumn. One recent phone call has been traced to a callbox in Las Vegas, so Francesca decides to stake it out in the hope of finding her sister. She makes the acquaintance of Carl, owner of a bar that becomes a safe place for young women, and Luke, a security consultant for one of the big Casinos who has issues to deal with surrounding his mother, and his desire for fatherhood.

The subplots are several and intertwined. After a long, drawn-out lead-up, the climax is somewhat rushed and all the threads are neatly tied up. While some of the issues addressed are topical, the scheme in which the teens are involved becomes obvious fairly quickly, but the execution is extremely tedious. The story progresses so slowly that at times that reading it is like wading through molasses. While Francesca and Luke are more than cardboard, many of the characters are stereotypes lacking any depth. The romance aspect seems to be secondary to the main plot and is also very slow moving. This needs some ruthless editing before it could rate more than 2 stars.

This book was actually quite interesting. The characters were smart and strong. They had all gone through so much and really seem to complete each other. It was a fun read but also an educational one.

Francesca saw her life crumbling and went to find her runaway sister in Las Vegas. She can hide her pain from everyone but in the process of looking for her sister finds a man she learns to trust with her heart.

Luke has problems of his own with an overly-emotional mother whose mental condition has no cure. He is trying to adopt a child but it always seems to fall through. Meanwhile, a gambling scam is threatening the casino he's head of security at and his boss (and godfather) is on his case about it.

Autumn, the runaway sister, escaped the abuse she and Francesca faced from home, but has found that life in Las Vegas is not the picnic she'd hoped it would be. So, she finds herself involved with a group of powerful people who won't just let her leave.

When the 3 meet in Vegas it is a fateful encounter with romance and adventure and enough twists to keep you guessing. I would definitely recommend this book!

This was a interesting book . It was fun to read but some lessons taught also. One older sister Francesca who lost love and a child . Goes in search of her runaway younger sister Autumn finding her in Vegas . Then there is Luke examine and head of security at big casino. He offers to help her find her younger sister. This is a book about trust deception and love. A very good read from start to finish.

I loved this book!! I stayed up until 2:30 in the morning reading because I had to see how it ended! What a great story. I will be reading more of this authors work.
