Reviews about Shadowmoor: Shadowmoor Cycle Anthology, Book I (Lorwyn Cycle) (Bk. 1) (6):

It's actually a bunch of short stories linked together in one novel and makes for a very good weekend read or just something to pass the time.
The writing style is done very well and enough detail to keep the reader enthralled on every page.

Thank you.

This was a gift for my son to help complete his set of the Magic books. I had no problem at all, they were shipped quickly. Would do business with again.

This book is a decent collection of stories that get worse as you move toward the end. The authors provide several references to the Lorwyn books, and each story explores several fascinating elements of the world of Shadowmoor.

That being said, it suffers from being an anthology: one author's take on the world differs slightly from another's. For instance, in one story the "Kithkin" suffer from dry eyes, blinking constantly during their watch, while in another, the same race is noted to have eyes that "never seem to blink." Details like this, though small, tend to mess with the ethos of the story.

As noted, the stories also tend to lessen in quality more towards the end. Characters act in odd ways and plots end up feeling "squished" to get the stories into fewer pages.

If you like Shadowmoor, you can pick this book up and enjoy elements of it, yet the anthology itself just isn't very high quality.

Frankly speaking, I do not like the way that this book was a collaboration effort of many authors centered around characters in another book written by unrelated authors. It made the transition from Lorwyn to Shadowmoor difficult at best and had little to do with the primary characters. The fact that each chapter was a different story was also irritating. I did not expect an anthology, but a continuation of the previous two books as Maralen, Rhys, Brigid, Sygg, and the Vendillion clique adjust to the aftermath of the Aurora with Colefenor's new and still immature successor. I was so disappointed in this book that five months later I still haven't picked up the final book in this block in fear that I would be treated to much of the same.

The stories were good, but the fact that it was alot of short stories and not one like the others made me not like it as much!!
