I passed exam 70-668 three weeks ago using this text as part of my prep material. However it contains very broad infomation that is not tested. The test is entirely scenario/case based (every question) and you must know how to implement SharePoint's features to design a solution to meet the business case being presented. The test does not allow you to review your answers. Once answered, you are commited to it. If you are an experienced IT pro you'll find that fully 85% of the material in this text is "filler", (i.e., you already know what a processor is and that you need routers and switches to connect computers togehter) that does not provide the needed background information to know when or how you would use a given SharePoint feature to meet the criteria of the scenario you'll be asked to meet. The 15% of the remaining material is of value, particulalry the exercises. Here is how you pass 70-668: a. Work the exercises in this text until you can explain to someone else why doing what the exercise calls for is being done. b. Go through every feature (yes, every single one) of SharePoint 2010 and pull it's related technet article to know how/when to use it. You don't need to know specific configuration steps - that's what exam 70-667 is about. Example - be able to explain when you'd use a site vs a web page to meet a given scenario, not how to create one. Good luck.

In the technical support field, we are in need of a lot of reference materials to meet all needs. This book is a great source of information in an area I was not too familiar with. It will make a great addition to our resource library.

Exam 70-668 follows a very specific case study approach with detailed criteria, such as search, security, etc. I would have expected the book to map better to these criteria and include similar case studies. There were no example questions in the book. Even the index was not very helpful to locate information. As a SharePoint administration and architecture book it was OK, but definitely not an exam prep guide.

The book provides some baseline knowledge from the OSI stack to unpacking a router and yes it does contain some information that touches on the exam objectives - but it is nothing close to an exam prep book. To be honest, I'm very disappointed in the content and will be selling the book to recoup some of my money. Remove the "Exam 70-668" from the cover of the book and I'd rate this book a solid 2 stars. For a more complete and detailed book related to SharePoint 2010 Administration, I'd recommend Wrox (ISBN 978-0-470-53333-8).

I love this book and the new Sybex "Real World Skills" series. The book format is almost tutorial based with step by step instructions on how to go through various task. This model is ideal for me and parallels my preferred learning method: 'watch one, do one, teach one.' If you are into memorization and want something that teaches to the test and approaches learning by providing clinical definitions of terms; then you'd be happier with a Microsoft Press book. Again this is not a book to read over and over, highlighting vocabulary terms, while committing concepts to memory. This book is structured for you to learn from the context associated with the exercises outlined herein. You actually learn how to implement SharePoint which will in turn help you master the product. However you do have to have the type mind that is able to draw conclusions and extrapolate understanding without hand holding.
I am in the process of upgrading my SharePoint farm to SharePoint 2010. I found Chapter 12 of this book a great guideline for my tasks. The book provides detailed planning for the upgrade. It also lists upgrading options from for different early SharePoint and database versions. In addition, the upgrade steps in this chapter are very easy to follow.
