This is a very well written and researched book that is rich in attention to detail. Presely intrigues the reader because he was able to stimulate his sources (20 top Florida fishing guides) into a sense of "total recall" and skillfully transcribe their thoughts into easy to understand techniques, tips and theory.

The book serves well as a basic introduction to Florida fishing for the novice, but even the seasoned angler will learn from the meticulous details of Presely's work. As Presely points out in his text, no one will ever know everything about fishing.

I found it very refreshing that throughout the book Presely included 21st century suggestions on etiquette for handling fish, caring for the environment and a whole chapter dedicated to and entitled, "The Golden Rule".

I personally found the last chapter "Final Secrets" most enjoyable. Here Presely scribes a biography of each of his Florida top guides and includes that guide's "final secret" to his success. Ask a fishing guide in public what his key to success is and you are sure to get a very well thought out and useful reply.

When you are finished reading Secrets from Florida's Master Anglers it's virtually impossible for anyone to not just be a better fisherman in Florida, but be a better fisherman, period!

Very Disappointed. The book was more advertising for Guides and other services than actual advice for fishing Florida waters. I obtained from another source an excellent book that I strongly recommend. Baits Rigs & Tackle by Vic Dunaway. It gave me everything that Florida Angler did not. Rudi

The author conducted a lot of research from Florida's leading guides like Captain Bouncer Smith. There are so many tips in this book, it'll pay for itself in more fish. Many species and techniques are covered as well. Good work!

If you want to become a better angler, you can hire a charter captain or guide for several hundred dollars a day, watch what he does, ask lots of questions, and take lots of notes.
Or you can spend a few bucks for Ron Presley's book, Secrets from Florida's Master Anglers, which contains the combined wisdom of 20 such experts.
Just about anything and everything you want to know about Florida inshore fishing is revealed in this 256-page book from the same angler/author who wrote Fishing Secrets from Florida's East Coast.
But don't think that you will benefit from this book only if you plan to fish Florida waters. Much of the information provided by these experts applies to inshore saltwater angling in general. For example, the first chapter reveals "what every angler should know," while the next two deal with rods, reels, lines, and terminal tackle.
One of the chapters that I enjoyed most is "Imitation of Life: Fishing with Artificial Bait." That's because I agree with Capt. Ray Markham who said, "I'd rather fool the fish than feed the fish."
Of course if you'd rather use natural bait, Presley includes a chapter on that as well. And, sometimes, that is the only way to get fish to bite.
For the average angler, who already knows quite a bit about fishing, one of the most beneficial chapters is "Shorten the Learning Curve--- How to Hire a Guide." That's because many anglers are reluctant to spend the money, thinking that they will do just fine by themselves. But when you're fishing new water--- even if you've read this book--- hiring a guide is the way to go. And this chapter reveals why.
The last of the 12 chapters, meanwhile, provides the contact information for each charter captain/guide, as well as one final secret from each. That chapter alone is worth the price of the book.

I've known Captain Ron for several years and fished many of the same waters for years. Ron IS a fine gentleman and angler in all regards, I've not yet read his book, but am planning to rush out shortly after the holidays and pick this book up as a treasure for me to have for sentimental reasons as Ron is a great friend and mentor, but also simply for the information that I can glean for myself and my business. If you're fishing in Florida and looking for fishing tips and techniques, I'm sure Captain Ron's book will reward you with treasures of fishing secrets many of his fishing guide friends hold.

Ron, I'm just hoping that you've kept a few of our secrets for our exclusive use and wish you the best and most sincere success with your new book "Secrets from Florida's Master Anglers". You're a great guide and a true gentleman. See you on the water again soon I'm sure.
