A compelling portrait of one of the most famous families in the history of the WWE as told by Dustin Rhodes, the first son of legendary figure Dusty Rhodes and the older brother of emerging star, Cody Rhodes. He first burst onto the scene in the nineties, covered in gold face paint and exhibiting a one-of-a- kind flamboyant style that bewildered his foes and thrilled his fans. Inside the ring, Goldust is as tough as they come, known for using outrageous mind games and taking down his opponents with unparalleled ruthlessness. It’s no surprise, then, that wrestling is in his blood; Goldust is the son of Dusty Rhodes, “The American Dream.” What is it like to be the son of a wrestling icon and follow him into the same profession? In this no-holds-barred account, Dustin Rhodes speaks frankly and openly about his journey. He talks about being a young boy who desperately missed his dad. A young man who only wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps and threw aside a football scholarship to eke out a meager existence in regional wrestling. A green wrestler struggling to prove to his peers that his work, not his name, had gotten him to where he was. Rhodes describes how, in the midst of a painful five-year estrangement with his father, he finally made a name for himself as Goldust and then let it all go, tumbling into a descent of self-medication that led him away from a red-hot career as a WWE Superstar and nearly cost him his life. When he finally hit bottom, Rhodes knew where to look for help from the family he always had: his father and World Wrestling Entertainment. When he got clean and sober and was offered the chance to wrestle for WWE, he snapped up the offer. The everyday existence of life on the road, working with and watching the new Superstars— like his brother Cody Rhodes—has reminded Rhodes of why he loves being a wrestler. Cross Rhodes is an intimate portrait of one man’s road to redemption and a unique glimpse into one of the most famous families in WWE.

Dustin is a Really humble guy, It's apparent here. Most "older" superstars do these books just to "Dish Dirt" on their fellow workers and explain why They did everything right and everyone else got in the way of that. No matter who Dustin had issues with (His Dad, His Ex, Scott Hall, etc.) He lays it out as "They were good people, I see where they were coming from." while still giving the reader a great look behind the Curtain, Both the Classic Curtain and the modern one. The book was Published in 2010, and now in 2014 Dustin is on yet another serious comeback. I'm sure he'll have to add chapters to this book much like Adam West did to his Biography. I'll be sure to read that version as well.

I have read a fair number of professional wrestling autobiographies, and this is one that kept my interest. Dustin Runnels (Golddust) has a lot to say in very concise chapters. Perhaps casual wrestling fans might have wanted more 'road stories', but I found this an engaging summary of his entire career.

I was watching Superstars of Wrestling back in the day when Dusty Rhodes introduced his son to the WWF. Ted Dibiase and Virgil beat up Dustin, with Dusty holding his bloody son yelling "Noooo!!". Great stuff. The introduction of Golddust actually kept me from watching the WWF during the 1990s, I stuck with WCW (and oddly enough, that meant watching his father instead). Golddust's later runs with Booker T were of course entertaining, and I think the fans let him know that he was beloved in their eyes.

Maybe there won't be a 'Best of Golddust' DVD package, but Dustin is so descriptive in this book that I felt like I was watching the highlights of his career. His dark periods, all documented here, are interesting as well. He even manages to sneak in a mention of his younger brother at the end. Cody Rhodes is currently enjoying a huge run in the WWE, proving that when it comes to the hard work of the Rhodes family, there's always gold.

Had to give it 5 stars because my heart went out for Dustin Rhodes. Hardcore wrestling fans will give it less because there's no real wrestling stories here or backstage stuff, besides how Vince McMahon handled his gimmick and how Dusty Rhodes was a bad dad. I think I finished the book in a few hours- very quick, with pictures, and couldn't put it down. Yeah, I knew most of the stuff because I have read or seen all of his interviews and Dusty's book, but was glad he has forgiven Marlena and his dad. But very happy he is clean now.

A couple of weeks ago, I purchased my second book that had a wrestling-related theme. The first was Eric Bischoff's Controversy Creates Cash.

But when one of my favorite Superstars of all time put a book out, I had to get that as well. Goldust (aka Dustin Runnels aka Dustin Rhodes aka The Natural) wrote about reality. About life as it is, not as it should be.

He was truthful in everything he had to say. He came at Dusty Rhodes, his father, but explained in a way that you can tell came from love and not hate. When he talked about Dusty he was angry, but it was constructive anger. But more importantly it was truth. It was truth about the wrestling industry. What it does to families. What it does to individuals.

Beyond the stories about his father, Dustin tells his story about how he came into the wrestling industry. What it meant to him to be a part of it and crediting greats like Dusty Rhodes and Barry Windham for his successes. He talks about the Vince we don't see. How Vince gives chances but also makes sure that you get him and his thinking.

But the telling story in the book focuses on Dustin's struggles. Alcohol and pain killers being his main vices, he talks about how it affected every part of his life and how he overcame his struggles. He talked about how the WWE is willing to lend a hand to help out with addiction.

If there is one book I suggest you get, it's this one. Even if you are not a wrestling fan, it is awe-inspiring. It's eye opening. But most of all it's truth....it's life. Thank you Mr. Runnels for sharing your life. And Congrats for a job well done!
