I usually rate the Montgomery/Taggart series three stars, having read up till this book from the very first: Black Lyon. Jude's style of writing is passable but having gotten used to the standard of impeccable flow from Judith McNaught's historical romances, the most I could ever give was a three. But where Jude's books do sing are from the various and different plots in each of her historical romance novels. No book has the same storyline and while there's the usual historical romance formula of strong-willed heroine vs arrogant aristocratic hero, each story has been a good page turner. Finally I can applaud her strong knowledge of background props, costumes and settings from the Middle Ages till early settlement period in America, of what I have read so far.

However, this cowboy romance fell short. It was difficult to force myself to keep reading as both the protagonist and her hero did not seem fleshed out well enough to make you feel invested in their happy ever after. The sentence flow was jerky and did not flow well. The aura of mystery surrounding the hero, while needed to give him the lone, bad cowboy persona just didn't work out well as in the end, we never really identify with his emotions and motivations. So I found myself not really caring much about his happiness or her happiness or the happy ending since I was never given the chance to really know them. It felt like this book was forced out to meet a deadline when the writer really wasn't in the mood to write.

I'm not really sure if I liked this book so much. I enjoyed it but I just feel like Tynan is so much of a player. Chris is too much. She's such a troublemaker and even caused the life of others. I didn't like it that much. I however liked it when Ty carried Chris in the beginning of the story I don't want to spoil so much of it. I also think that the grandfather should've said something. The twist was too weak. Ty's competition for Chris love is too weak. He's useless. Overall, I enjoyed the book. I recommend it to anyone that loves reading Jude Deveraux.

I was disappointed originally to learn that this book in the series took place in the "territories" as the previous two were historical romances that took place in England, but I quickly got over that when introduced to the mysterious character with only one name whose origins were unknown. There were some good twists, but the "obstacles" that kept the main characters apart got a little tedious after awhile. Overall, a good read if you are looking for something mindless and fun.

Good story of a young lady that was strong willed and wanting to be a news reported showing wrong doings. After several years her father felt it was time for her to come home back at the ranch, marry and have grandchildren for him. He sent two men to bring her home and the fun begins. Well written and good reading, with some very good humor

I enjoyed this book as much as i have enjoyed all Montgomery family stories. Strong and brave women and lots of adventure and romance always well balanced. Very good novel .

This book kept me going. I found myself wanting to get back to the book as quickly as possible when I had to leave it. I liked both of the main characters. I really liked that the hero was so masculine and heroic.

Just another of her books that you don't want to put down! Exciting, adventure beyond belief but romantic. Loved it!
received this book in the mail yesterday and am pleased with it. it has minimal markings on the first page and the others look clean so far. the binding shows wear, but is not bad or damaged (from what I can see). I recommend it.
