Spiritual life‚ Catholic Church. The tabernacle was set in a lavish plaster edifice that included small white columns, but the details are now gone from my mind. We said our prayers as we knelt there. And complete belief in Him and devotion to Him, no matter how interwoven with occasional fear and constant personal failure and imperfection, has become the true story of my life. If this path to God is an illusion, then the story is worthless.

The many different so-called ―spiritual ways of life‖ that are now being . On the other hand, a correct spiritual life is unthinkable without patristic guidance. Do not seek Christian perfection in human virtues

The many different so-called ―spiritual ways of life‖ that are now being offered to man from all sides are one of the illustrations of the complexity of this problem. Therefore, a task of the utmost importance arises: finding the more essential indications and qualities of true spirituality, which would allow one to differentiate it from all the possible forms of false spirituality, mysticism, and prelest. Do not seek Christian perfection in human virtues. It is not there; it is mystically preserved in the Cross of Christ (4:477–478).

The chapter entitled "He who must die: what does one see from a cross?" is worth the price of the book. The author presents the humanity of Jesus as He is dying on the cross from a unique perspective that touches the heart. Highly recommend this book to anyone who is searching for a deeper relationship with Jesus of Nazareth.

I was so happy to find this classic beauty available on Amazon. Padavano, sporotual guide amd poet, does indeed light fhe darkness with this book. Perfect for anytime, but especially Advent.

Good reading. Very inspiring.

This is a classic book with the distinction of having my earliest published photographs, 1970. Joe Nash was the project director of Paulist Press and was a terrific booster of my work. Anthony Padovano was their leading author. I'm sad to see the book at such a low price since DWD is regarded highly among the Catholic laity.- Tony Roberts

In retrospect, this book reflects some of the internal conflict that the author was experiencing. Originally (in the mid 70s),it was the photography that caught my attention. Later, it was the chapter in which the author initiated a dialogue between Christ's humanity and divinity as He hung on the cross that held me spellbound. Religiously, if you are a conventional thinker, this book may distrub you. However, if you take it in small doses and really consider what is being said, your faith will be enriched.
