Maybe one of the best known stories in the Bible is the story of David and Goliath. When David arrived he heard the champion of the Philistines, the giant Goliath, blaspheming the name of the God of Israel. When this story took place in 1 Samuel 17 David was probably only 17 years old. In this chapter we see David as an obedient son (1 Samuel 17:17-20), a brave soldier (verses 26 and 32), and, above all, a young man who fully trusted God (verses 37, 45-47). David was told by his father to take provisions to his brothers who were fighting in the Israelite army against the Philistines. When David arrived he heard the champion of the Philistines, the giant Goliath, blaspheming the name of the God of Israel

In the year 1611 the Bible was translated from Latin into English. Back then the Bible contained a total of 80 books and the last 14 books, which today have been excluded, made up the end of the Old Testament and were as follows: 1 Esdras. So why then does everyone continue to call him Jesus, when the letter J did not even being used at the time?

It reveals to us how God created the universe, laid out a plan for humanity and took steps toward the formation of theocracy

Leave this out, and you have no need for anything else. The entire notion of man's depravity hinges on Genesis, and if man isn't depraved, then Jesus is entirely unnecessary. It reveals to us how God created the universe, laid out a plan for humanity and took steps toward the formation of theocracy. The book of Genesis brings us into the Old Testament and starts to lay a foundation to enable us better understand the rest of the Bible.

Some of the most generous people I know are those who give from their small portions. I was taken to many villages to speak, and I visited with the leaders in those communities. I’ll never forget the moment I saw firsthand the generosity of people giving out of their own poverty

Some of the most generous people I know are those who give from their small portions. Over the course of my career, I’ve frequently been asked, Tim, where do you get your motivation for this kind of career path? Some put it more bluntly. I’ll never forget the moment I saw firsthand the generosity of people giving out of their own poverty. After I had spent a full day in one village, the people came to send me off on my journey. They brought chickens, vegetables, fruit - even a goat.

Its alphabet consists of 22 characters, all consonants (don’t worry; vowels were eventually added), and is written from right to left.

Stories in the Bible demonstrate how God works through the lives of ordinary, very human, people just like us. For millennia, the stories of the Patriarchs, along with several women, have been told from generation to generation in the Jewish community, shaping how God’s chosen people understand their relationship with Him. In People of the Bible Uncensored, modern Christians can get to know these legendary characters and the God who worked in and through them. Readers will be introduced to David, who wrestled with sexual temptation, and Abraham, who found it just as difficult to wait on God’s timing as Christians sometimes do today. As they begin to see the ancients for who they really were—readers will be encouraged and challenged to trust the God who can accomplish extraordinary things through the unlikeliest of people.
