In learning sentence patterns, you'll also master the conventions of grammar and punctuation, and thus avoid . Chapter Two contains detailed exercises over the 20 patterns. Chapter Three provides ideas and examples of how to combine the patterns together for even more variety.

In learning sentence patterns, you'll also master the conventions of grammar and punctuation, and thus avoid many common errors. Finally, Chapter Five contains longer examples from published writers where the patterns have been labeled in the margins.

This book features patterns of sentence structure, which is not quite the same thing. It's OK, but not really helpful. The twenty patterns stressed in this book have helped me tremendously. But don't stop there. Don't forget to check out the appendix at the end of the book. Many of us (myself included) have felt the need at one time or another for a useful guide on the proper codes of punctuation. The Appendix here is one of the best guides I've seen on this topic. When should you use a colon, semicolon, comma, or dash?

This Barron's Series book is a concise offering of valid patterns. Most were all familiar, but thinking of them this way could help one broaden their style. It's also a handy guide to punctuation, which I valued for its flexibility in certain situations.

This Barron's Series book is a concise offering of valid patterns. My copy, bought used, includes handwritten sentences filled in for all of the exercises. Some of these were quite comical, and many appeared to be intended for the good graces of whoever was grading them.

This book was recommended on a blog in one of those "meet the author" type interviews. Be warned it is a 'dry as a bone' text that will remind you of the worst day in your high school English class. I had to force myself to slog through it, and more than once. But its tips on sentence structuring have enhanced my writing style considerably. I eventually made a primer for myself, and pinned it on the wall by my writing desk. If you're serious about writing fiction, this is a must have. Life isn't all fun, sometimes you've got to slog through the mire to get what you need.

When should you use a colon, semicolon, comma, or dash? Many of us get confused with these, esecially when writing compound sentences. Although I love to write, I am far from being perfect at it; I still have a lot to learn. Don't we all? 'The Art Of Styling Sentences' has assisted me a great deal and has been the most useful text on grammatical prose that I've read to date.
