I am an amateur genealogist with 20+ years experience doing this. This book can be quite useful if you're working on your family tree. Although not indexed, the book is broken down by townships. If you know you're ancestors township they will be quite easy to find. Having said that, I found this book contained mostly members of the town, or the professional. The smithy, the bankers, the grocer, etc. since all my relatives were farmers none of them made it into this book. A better source for them would be Early German Settlers of York County Pennsylvania by Keith Dull, Revised Edition. My copy was published in 2007 and I have found many, many of my families to help me with my research.

Thank you - the book is a great plus for research in York County. Very small print, but many more biographies that way.

Although we didn't find our ancestors (obviously NOT famous)... there are 'pinpoints' of history tucked in the stories of people who were well-known in their area. Originally published in 1886... it tells you about living people, their parents, and their occupations. Rather expensive...but it's a keeper.
