Executive Summary Assessing impact is a complicated process, especially when measuring the impact of intrinsically complex, intangible and often ill-defined processes such as organisational capacity building.
Assessing the impact of capacity building activities can be difficult when they include a diverse range of aspects . One of the major challenges is how to assess the impact of capacity building and then use and disseminate the findings in a timely, user- friendly and meaningful way.
Assessing the impact of capacity building activities can be difficult when they include a diverse range of aspects, some of which are intangible, fluid and iterative processes ( Hailey et a. 2005). More is required than simply measuring quantitative change over time. There are also challenges associated with the role of self-assessment and personal narrative in impact assessment, and the degree to which qualitative indicators can be used to balance quantitative measures.
