Balsekar t Ramesh S. Balsekar was a disciple of the late Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj, a renowned Advaita master. From early childhood, Balsekar was drawn to Advaita, a nondual teaching, particularly the teachings of Ramana Maharshi and Wei Wu Wei. He wrote more than 20 books, was president of the Bank of India, and received guests daily in his home in Mumbai until shortly before his death. Balsekar taught from the tradition of Advaita Vedanta nondualism. His teaching begins with the idea of an ultimate Source, Brahman, from which creation arises.

This is one of the most profound and simple concepts that I have ever come across. The reasons I rated this five stars is that I was unable to give the book six or more stars!!! This book will give you a lot to ponder and consider in your daily life. I strongly recommend reading this book!!!

Of all the Advaita teachers, Ramesh is my personal favorite.

His message is deceptively simple:

"...acceptance of `What Is' is generally understood as `peace of mind'".

However, this may be a difficult idea for those with no background in Advaita or Zen or 12-Step programs -- all of which have "acceptance of what is" as a key concept.

Popular culture, including the education system, product marketing and news media preach the exact opposite. We are constantly urged to fight against almost everything. If someone says something we disagree with we are told to fight back with words, boycotts and legal action if necessary. Movies and video games carry this adversarial approach to life to the extremes of physical violence. Whether we are watching a politician, talk show host or cartoon character, we are unlikely to hear that the solution to our problems is "acceptance of what is."

Ramesh linked total acceptance with the concept of "non-doer ship," which Christian mystics, recovering alcoholics and drug addicts understand as surrender of their will and their life to God or in 12-Step programs a Higher Power.

Ramesh often spoke of God and cosmic consciousness interchangeably, as he explained: "Every event in the world is a happening according to the Cosmic Law; how each happening affects whom, for better or for worse, and through which body-mind organism the happening happens, is also according to the Cosmic Law. No individual entity is capable of doing anything; every individual is a mere instrument through which the happening happens."

The most radical part of Ramesh's teaching is summed up in a quote from Buddha, which he often repeated: "Events happen, deeds are done but there is no individual doer thereof."

This is the ultimate solution to the problem of problems. As Ramesh explained:

"The beautiful part of the total acceptance of this principle of non-doer ship is that you do not get solutions for your problems, but that the problems themselves do not arise. This is because problems are usually based on relationships and this understanding that there is no doer of any deed - inevitably and invariably leads to a harmonious relationship with the `other': no one is to be blamed, no one to be condemned."

For those wringing their hands over disputes in faraway lands, Ramesh's finds a separate peace saying: "What about changing the world? I am not concerned with it. God has created it, let him deal with it."

That's advice you won't hear from TV news anchors manipulating viewers into a frenzy watching dreadful doings thousands of miles away. Of course, the war media personalities are obsessed with is the ratings war.

While most people may find it hard to accept Ramesh's concept of total acceptance of what is, I find it liberating.

That is why those with a bent toward Zen and Advaita may find that this is the last spiritual self-help book they will ever need.

When the life raft gets you to shore, you do not need to find another life raft.

Don't let the relative brevity dissapoint this is the best of the best andI've read most of his books. This is the one I would recommend as the top. Read this watch the videos on YouTube and you'll be way ahead in all areas, then there will be no "you"( if it is to be)

Maybe this book is not for the layman, as it is difficult to understand at points. However, it is difficult only because it is complex. If one spends the necessary time with the text, all the points are clearly understood. This, along with Confusion No More, have influenced my life incredibly.

I have other books by Ramesh...enjoy them all.
The concept in this book parallels another series of books I recently read (Theo Fatalism). We live in infinite uncertainty and the only reality is the present moment.
