Excellent biography by the English ballet critic, John Percival, who follows the entire career of Nureyev in the West from his arrival in 1961. Repertoire of roles danced, ballet productions, and choreographies. Publication date: 1975. Putnam’s & sons,, New York.

Percival doesn't seem to have made up his mind about Nureyev (their temperaments are almost diametrically opposite), so rather than let his thoughts jell too precipitously, as might happen in a real biography, he has compiled a sort of a sourceb.

Percival doesn't seem to have made up his mind about Nureyev (their temperaments are almost diametrically opposite), so rather than let his thoughts jell too precipitously, as might happen in a real biography, he has compiled a sort of a sourcebook, taking up aspects of the dancer one by one. A sketch of the gruesome Russian fairybook childhood and hints of early unsocialistic jetes appear in what is essentially a very thorough professional vita, part one; more palpable details wait for another section, in which Percival remembers his brushes with Nureyev filming and touring.

hulk
It's an older book with a lot of good information on Nureyev, the dancer, with specifics about the ballets he performed or directed without the salacious facts which can be found elsewhere.

This work was first published in 1975 and one can justly wonder if it is at all possible to write a biography about someone so young. Nureyev was at that time only 37 years of age and at the absolute peak of his career. Yet, John Percival has written an interesting account of Nureyev's early years. There are also numerous testimonies from a lot of prominent ballet personalities, amongst them Sir Frederic Ashton, Dame Ninette de Valois, Maurice Bejart and others. Arranged in chronological order, there is a complete list of all his roles from 1955 to 1975. Also, an appendix of Nureyev's productions from 1962 onwards. Highly readable and absolutely devoid of all scandals.
