William Stout is one of America's foremost dinosaur muralists and illustrators. William signed my book and drew a little triceratops for me, it is clear he is a genuine person who cares about nature and art. It's great when an artist you admire is such a likable person as well. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, process, and paintings with us William!

Inspirations focuses on Stout’s loving portraits of the women of the fantastic realms. William Stout is one of America’s foremost fantasy and film artists, dinosaur muralists and illustrators.

The first thing that has to said is that this book is a celebration of women in classical settings, adventure pin-ups and mystical female characters of myth and legend. The artist's technique on each of these images varies but there is consistent quality from simple pin-ups to complex, fully realized designs. William Stout's love for creating art on many levels shines through. There is nudity in this book but it's tasteful. There's nothing lurid or overtly sexual.
From the Amazon styled warrior women riding a monstrous terror bird to the winsome faerie lass whispering juicy gossip to a snail, this is not just fun but beautiful to peruse in a wonderfully designed, folio styled book. Some of the art works contained in this volume are so lush and well defined that there's emotional weight to them, easily representative of the fine illustrative art that brings me back to the golden age of fine illustration artists almost a hundred years gone.
This is William Stout's second volume collecting his illustrations and I hope there are more volumes on the way.

This is another beautiful collection from publisher John Flesk and has found a great place on a convenient shelf.

Okay, so I love fantasy art especially when it features faerie, mermaid, mythology, etc. But I am so NOT a fan of the "barbarian and buxom beauty" genre for which Royo & Vallejo are so famous. (Sorry, guys)

Stout features both in this edition. Some stunning fantasy artwork I'd be proud to frame and display. But also many of the "bare-breasted babe" pinup art that so delight adolescent boys.

I know that there is a market for both types of art. Just wish Stout would separate his works into two books. One for fantasy lovers and one for guys with breast fixations. If he did, the fantasy art book would go on my coffee table. As it is, I doubt I'll share this book with anyone except my more understanding friends who as moms have already found the girlie mags under their sons' beds... and could care less :-)

When all is said and done, Stout's fantasy art is incredibly well-done, detailed and beautiful. I don't regret buying it. Just wish I could display it without reservation. You've got two markets, Mr. Stout. Cater to them and sales may well increase!

And if you like Royo & Vallejo, about half of the book is in that vein, and you may even like like some of his tamer stuff.
