Burges, William, 1827-1881, Art, Victorian - Great Britain, Artists - Great Britain - Biography, Middle Ages - Influence. Chicago : University of Chicago Press. inlibrary; printdisabled; trent university;.
William Burges was an English architect and designer in the Gothic Revival style. This book is very informative in terms of Burges' work. His work presaged the Arts and Crafts movement. Although his name is probably unfamiliar to you unless you are particularly interested in 19th-century architecture, he designed some relatively famous buildings in his short career. It collects images of a large number of buildings and pieces and includes ephemera such as sketches, photographs, blueprints, etc. It was interesting to see his notes about his ideas, sometimes sketched onto photos of the sites, or clipped onto buildings plans to show where they'd go.
