This highly successful and student-friendly text looks at the relationship between biological factors (mostly brain activity) and behavior, and shows students what biology has to do with psychology. As he captures and engages readers' interest, Kalat reveals how such aspects of brain activity as neurotransmission and neuroanatomy relate to "real" psychological topics such as language and learning, sexual behavior, anxiety, aggressive behavior, depression, and schizophrenia. Now thoroughly revised throughout with new art, research, examples, and more coverage of genetics and evolution, this latest edition maintains the strengths of past editions while adding a whole new look and feel--in less than 600 pages!

I wasn't a huge fan of this book. Probably because neuroscience makes my brain hurt. This book is fairly technical in nature and higher level in understanding the biological makeup of the brain. If you are in fact interested in neuroscience and what effects it's behavior and how the connections are interrelated, this is definitely the book for you.

I know it’s strange to rate a textbook, but this book is so great. The author is hilarious. It was such a refreshing change from pretty much every other textbook I’ve read. There is so much mind blowing information provided that sometimes I would have to walk away and take some time to wrap my brain around it. It’s one of the only textbooks that I plan to keep and reread.

Needed this book for a class last semester. Lot's of good info for one who is a psyc major or anyone interested in learning how the brain works. Worked well for me, got a B in the class.

This was actually one of the few books I wished I had actually purchased instead of rented. The author is great, the book is easy to understand, and many examples are used. Very interesting class (intro to biopsychology). Renting books through Amazon is easy and the price is reasonable.

Great Value. It was priced at $379 New at my campus bookstore and it didn't even look as clean as the one that I received from Amazon. Awesome deal.

One of the premier texts on Cognitive Psychology. A great resource worth purchasing for undergrad psych students. If the latest version is too costly, you should consider purchasing a previous edition to add to your personal resource library. You'll miss out on the latest research being done (which is worth staying on top of), but you will have a great survey text on the subject of cognitive psychology.

Not bad for a textbook. Has a lot of good examples so far, and doesn't bore you to death.
Good introduction to biological psychology.. You would do well to read some of the source material though and get a supplemental biology book on concepts that aren't clearly stated in the text to answer the questions from the publisher. Excellent examples about how biochemistry affects psychology.
