Matter and Interactions offers a modern curriculum for introductory physics (calculus-based). It presents physics the way practicing physicists view their discipline while integrating 20th Century physics and computational physics. The text emphasizes the small number of fundamental principles that underlie the behavior of matter, and models that can explain and predict a wide variety of physical phenomena. Matter and Interactions will be available as a single volume hardcover text and also two paperback volumes.Volume Two includes chapters 13-23.

I am a student, I love this textbook. I used it at a community college with a very harsh professor, and this book carried me through, and I was one of two people in the class to get an A. This book carried me through. This makes every thing simple because everything in Physics is based on the three principles, which this book emphasizes! I am now at a university for Physics 2 where the required textbook is a different one, but I still use this one and just completely discarded the other one. This breaks the concepts down and gives plenty of useful examples to demonstrate those concepts. It is not just a bunch of formulas. It actually makes me understand the meaning behind the formulas!

Tremendously good book for physics. Very good explanations with practice problems and checkpoints. It also shows you how to use the programming language python for the iterative problems where it would be impossibly long to calculate by hand a planet's revolution around a star for example.

This book does a very poor job of explaining a complex subject. My general experience with physicists is that they expect students to just get it, and the author seems to have the same mindset. The book encourages the student to apply fundamental principles rather than just using a formula, but no effort is given to teaching the student how to arrive at this mindset. Hence, me and my classmates continue to view physics as an exercise in memorizing formulas rather than learning how to solve problems.
The online homework that accompanies this book also leaves much to be desired. Throughout the book, emphasis is placed on "estimating" and calculating a general result, while the online homework will require additional precision beyond what is allowed by significant figure rules.
If you are a professor considering using this book, please do your students a favor and use someone else.

A very modern introduction to the subject! I expect to use it as a base for more contemporary introduction to Physics. Bravo!
Daiktilar
it was pretty standard. It has volume one and two and arrived in standard condition

perfect for anyone looking for a Gen. Phys 2 book without the outrageous price of a normal school book.

This book has to be the worst book I have every used during my career. Its RIDDLED with errors and most of the chapters sections are very vague on the subjects. If you have the option, avoid this book because you're better off learning physics from a bag of chips.
Surprisingly useful textbook that arrived at a reasonable amount of time!
