Reviews about What is Life? A Guide to Biology with Physiology (7):

Some of the chapters had biased opinions, such as being pro-GMOs and against alternative medicine, without presenting much actual evidence. Speculation and opinion does not belong in a science textbook. Stick with the facts instead of trying to sway people one way or another about things, especially when many treatments in alternative medicine have legitimate peer reviewed research to support their use.

I prefer the loose leaf books for portability, but enjoy bound versions to keep in my library as they are more durable.

This book was very similar to its newer edition. I like this professor's take on biology; he actually made reading about complex topics interesting and relatable. The book also came with online access, which has great videos to supplement learning complex concepts.

Easy to follow text, lots of photographs and illustrations to help students understand the subject. If you are also using the online prep u website, make sure to either get the latest edition or buy a code online for $10 per semester.

I am on my second semester using this book and I love it. The text is written in a way that makes learning the material really easy, just easy to understand. The pictures and diagrams are also very helpful, and I was surprised at the quality of some of the images in this book. There are even indicators at the bottom of the page that explains what part of the chapter you are in related to what the material is covering, almost like a little timeline, which is great because I know how close I am to finishing a chapter without having to flip pages :P.

What a sensational book! The addition of Physiology motivates the reader towards greater interest in the subject. Very well written. I simply can not say enough about how very good this book is.
