A Note on Alun Munslow and Keith Jenkins After leaving Staordshire University as Emeritus Professor of History and Historical Theory, Alun Munslow was appointed Visiting Professor in History and Historical Theory at the University of Chichester in 2006. However, Alun’s other books are all on ‘doing and thinking about history’ although the rst, Discourse and culture: The creation of America, 1870–1920, Routledge (1992 and 2009), also doubles as a multi-biography of six ‘American cultural gures’.

He has published two books on American history and eight on the nature of history of which the most recent is Narrative and History (Palgrave Macmillan).

Alun Munslow re-assesses history in the light of post-modernism and other intellectual challenges which have questioned the primacy of the modernist epistemology of empiricism. In an original and stimulating vision of history that will intrigue all those seriously interested in the subject, Munslow argues that history is not only about the sources, but a literary construction. Munslow concludes that history, as a cultural narrative about the past can never tell us what the past really means.

Deploying a range of key concepts such as scepticism, aesthetics, ethics, standpoint, irony, authorship and a new understanding of truth, The Future of History examines history as a form of knowledge, arguing that in the future the multiple forms of its expression will be as significant as its content.

I thought It was the history of future..

In this book Munslow discusses the future of history from a postmodernist perspective. I have to admit, that I am a newcomer in the field of postmodernism being more trained in the old-style of historical writing and understanding, but nevertheless I wanted to know the other perspectives as well. Munslow is very good in getting his point across and in comparison to Keith Jenkins and other theorists it is easy to follow Munslows argumentation.
