The 1955 National Nursing Home Survey (NNHS) is a nationwide sample survey of nursing homes, their residents, and registered nurses conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics from August 1985 to lanuary 1986. It includes all types of nursing and related care homes that provided some level of nursing care in the contiguous United States. The survey was conducted using a combination of personal interviews and selfenumerated forms. The 1985 survey shows 5,243 current residents with 6,023 discharges. Responses came from 2,763 registered nurses from 1,000 nursing homes.
