OMG! This book for its age (1953) is truly amazing....all the colour plates are just that...they are loose leaf and printed separately from the book....they can (if you desired) be taken out and framed.......I couldn't bear to of course. The colour plates are perfect ....crystal clear and many of them have an additional print which is a "detail" of the original image.
The writing is a little dated but nonetheless very helpful and informative, just a little tedious, but you just cant take your eyes off the wonderful colour plates....a delicious book and a teal treasure....very good for an art reference as it goes right into the history with regions etc. well worth seeking out this book!

Agree with all written by previous reviewer - especially age and quality. What you expect from Skira. I have hard and soft copy and do not see a sacrifice in quality of prints in soft copy. I use the soft copy more(utilitarian) but enjoy sitting with hard bound (1953 luxe). Personal preference on this book.

I have seen no finer presentation of Byzantine art anywhere. A marvelous book full of great pictures and interesting stories behind each one.
