Great history book. The best thing about this book from the historical perspective is that the record is composed from the notes taken by Schramm while he was serving as the historian to the NAZI party. This book also records the decline of Hitler's mental state and this caused the war to drag on longer.

Wow, I never knew the human side of Hitler. He was a wiz with names and always took the time to pick out special presents for people's birthday. I think he is probably one of the most evil men who ever walked the planet. But he had some great leadership qualites, how else could this man rise from nothing to a man who lead a nation to unspeakable evil. Worth the read.

Thanks to Schramm, I think we can now put away any idea that Hitler was in any respect a "good guy" despite his mask of sanity with which he bedazzled the unwary, the gullible, and the weak. While Schramm does gives us a good perspective on those parts, he tears away the veil and shows us what was really beneath: total contempt for anyone who did not think that Hitler was an unqualified genius with a great destiny. And the truth was: he was not a genius; he was more like an idiot savant with certain "tricks" he could perform to impress people. More than anything, he was driven by a pathological conviction of his greatness which was greatly exaggerated by his stunning lack of insight.

Terrific book with new and important material to add to our knowledge of this freak of history.

Adolf Hilter, a fascinating yet despised man of his times would be a hero to many, but a murderer to some. He has had the courage to lead thousands upon thousands of women, men, and children. He has changed my way of thinking and probably others who thing of Hitler as their hero.
