Philip Ross Bullock, . t. Professor of Russian Literature and Music. My most recent book is a critical life of Tchaikovsky that explores the composer’s life within the context of nineteenth-century Russia’s evolving musical institutions (conservatoires, publishing, performance, and patronage). The great divisions among humankind and the dominating source of conflict will be cultural. Nation states will remain the most powerful actors in world affairs, but the principal conflicts of global politics will occur between nations and groups of different civilizations. The clash of civilizations will be the battle lines of the future. Conflict between civilizations will be the latest phase of the evolution of conflict in the modern world. The interactions between peoples of different civilizations are increasing; these increasing interactions intensify civilization consciousness and awareness of differences between civilizations and commonalities within civilizations.

A wonderful (if now dated) reference book about world events that shaped the twentieth century. Book was given as a barmitzvah present to the seller in 1975 and is still in excellent condition, with some minor wear on back of dust jacket.
