When the Wind Blows is a novel by James Patterson. It is the precursor to The Lake House and inspired the Maximum Ride series.

When the Wind Blows is a novel by James Patterson. The book centers on Frannie Devin O'Neill, a veterinarian, whose husband was killed three years before the story takes place. The action takes place in Bear Bluff, Colorado. She meets Kit Harrison, an FBI agent, when he rents a cabin in the woods behind her house. One night, after a friend's mysterious death, Frannie sees a small girl with wings, running in the forest

The twisting path narrowed, then wound around a great, mossy-green shoulder of rock. She clawed and struggled forward through more thick tangles of branches and brush. The girl suddenly stopped. I could see the badly injured doe was pregnant.

This is a great book for young adults. As the Wind Blows and The Lake House were good. They are nothing like the Maximum Ride series which is geared more to a slightly younger audience.
