Start by marking The Romantic Obsessions and Humiliations of Annie Sehlmeier as Want to Read: Want to Read savin. ant to Read. This book was just as good as the Kate Bjorkman book by Plummer that I enjoyed so well. I just cringed and cried and laughed along with Annie and the things she gets herself into while in high school. In all of the books I've read by Plummer, she just nails the emotions and heartaches of an adolescent girl. I completely remember going through those exact same emotions. I love this author's narrative voice.
Grade 8-10 Annie Sehlmeier, along with her parents, sister, and grandmother, immigrates from Holland to Salt Lake City . In fact, romantic obsessions have not been as well covered in other young adult novels as in this first novel.
Grade 8-10 Annie Sehlmeier, along with her parents, sister, and grandmother, immigrates from Holland to Salt Lake City, Utah, where they join an uncle and an aunt. Annie is the restrained, considerate, intelligent daughter, her younger sister Henny the vociferous, outgoing one. But all of this changes when Annie first sees handsome, charming Tom Wooley, every high-school girl's dream date. The story is really Annie's and is not unique to her immigrant status.
Annie is a girl who must deal with a lot of changes in her life- a new country, a new school, new friends, a new .
She is also dealing with those turbulent teenage emotions and how to reveal or conceal them. Annie is so real as a character, and Louise Plummer writes with such a great sense of humor that this book is a delight to read. As a Utahn, it was also fun to read a book with a setting that is familiar. This book made me laugh and cry, and teaches that of all the people in the world, the one you should be is yourself. Hi.
