This made the first sections of the book very difficult to read, since I kept going back and rereading to understand how and why the author was constructing the story in this way. This is not the best biblical-life novelization I've read, but it's an okay story overall. This was a good novel - a story about Joseph, son of Jacob. His family history, how he grew up, what happened to him as a young adult, and his life in Egypt.

This is the fictionalized story of the biblical character Joseph, told from the viewpoints of the five women who loved hi.

Reviews about Joseph: And the Women Who Loved Him (7):
Blackstalker
This novel is about Joseph, known for his "coat of many colors."The basic plot of the Biblical story is that Joseph, his father's most beloved son, is sold into slavery by his jealous brothers- but eventually ends up becoming the Prime Minister of Egypt In this novel his story is told from the viewpoint of the women who loved him: his beloved mother(who was his father's favored wife), his sister-in-law(who makes him his famous coat), his master's wife(who falsely accuses him of rape when he rejects her), and his gifted Egyptian wife(a famous priestess). As a result, the book is actually composed of four novellas. I thought this book was very well researched. It weaves Hebrew and Egyptian daily life, foods, worship, clothing, and customs into the narratives, making Joseph's story interesting as well as realistic. The characters were multi-dimensional and sympathetic, instead of being cast as either saints or villains. I would recommend this novel to anyone interested in ancient history and culture, as well as to Bible students.

This book is a fictionalized account of the life of Joseph as found in the book of Genesis. I read it when it was first published in the '80s and was very happy to find it is still in print for I bought it for a friend who was curious about Joseph's life. Joyce Landorf brings much historical content into her account of this Bible hero that allows readers to relate to Joseph in a personal way. She is very gifted at weaving her story around the relationships he developed throughout his life as a man of great faith. Very inspiring read.
one of the best books i've ever read
