The globalisation of politics and the economy requires constant monitoring of international developments. This is also of great importance with regard to those areas of policy pursued by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment (SZW). The mission of the Ministry is to promote employment, modern labour relations and an activating social security system. The Ministry pursues this mission internationally as well as nationally. In the EU context, the balance between economic growth and social protection has been the main theme of ministerial policy through the years.

The intergovernmental cooperation resulting from treaties or agreements in the forms of Intergovernmental Organizations (IGOs) has been viewed as an appropriate mean for dealing with various issues in global and regional levels. Whilst IGOs may focus on a wide range of areas such as education, culture, and political affairs, this study primarily addresses their roles and activities in security, economy, health, and environment. To that aim, their evolution, roles, and activities were elaborated through giving several examples of IGOs.

An Intergovernmental Conference (IGC) is the formal procedure for negotiating amendments to the founding treaties of the European Union. Under the treaties, an IGC is called into being by the European Council, and is composed of representatives of the member states, with the Commission, and to a lesser degree the Parliament also participating.
The European Union (EU) is a unique partnership in which member states have pooled sovereignty in certain policy areas and harmonized laws on a wide range of economic and political issues. The EU is the latest stage in a process of European integration begun after World War II, initially by six Western European countries, to promote peace, security, and economic development. The EU currently consists of 28 member states, including most of the formerly communist countries of Central and Eastern Europe. The EU is largely viewed as a cornerstone of European stability and prosperity.
Directive 89/391/EEC, the so-called OSH Framework Directive, lays down the main principles to encourage improvements in the safety and health of workers at work. It guarantees minimum safety and health requirements throughout Europe while Member States are allowed to maintain or establish more stringent measures
The workshop was organized by the Institute for Social Policy and School of Sociology, HSE University, Moscow With support from the Heinrich Böll Foundation in Russia, Department of Labour, Social Affairs and Healthcare of the German Embassy in Moscow, and the French-Russian.
The workshop aims to bring together post-Soviet, European and Turkish Muslim experiences of home, mobility and translocality to explore commonalities and differences between these regions through the lens of space and belonging.
