Nehemia and Keith do a marvelous job of speaking honestly from their personal perspectives - one, a Jew's, the other, a Christian's - maintaining love, respect and honest scholarship. That, alone, is educational. They also speak easily to the academic or the layperson.

Journeying with them through The Lord's Prayer (the Avinu Prayer) and through Israel is enlightening. They debunk not a few myths we've come to accept as matters of fact, which have important implications. I'm so thankful for the more thorough examination of the text. I'd been asking the Lord for better understanding of a few of its parts I couldn't quite wrap my head around. But now, seeing the Hebrew text, it makes sooooo much more sense and really fits, I think, within the counsel of the whole Bible. On top of that, understanding Jesus' words from the Jewish perspective, seeing the people and culture He spoke to, is deeply enriching. You'll get a much clearer picture of Jesus' voice and the true heart of this prayer when you get this historical context. I'm praying the Avinu prayer with much greater understanding and power - thank You Jesus.

This book is a great and interesting read with a few qualifications. It really helps to actually have a deep conviction to live a life that is pleasing to our Creator. It also helps to know the background of where these two writers come from and the story of how they met and become lifelong friends despite the differences of those backgrounds. Nehemia Gordon is a Karaite Jew who does not hold that Jesus/Yeshua/Yahushua is the prophesied Messiah of the Old Testament. Keith Johnson is a Methodist minister who has discovered the connection of Jesus as the Messiah who through his shed blood has allowed a way for any God-fearer to return to the original one and only covenant laid out in the first five books of the OT known to Jews as the Torah. Nehemia, despite what some Christian legalists would say, has a true heart for the Father and has helped provide great insight from a Jewish perspective for many who are returning to the Torah of the Father through Messiah Jesus/Yeshua. He doesn't try to convince you of anything. He simply provides scholarly information of which this book as well as others he has written benefits greatly. On a personal note, this book really touched me deeply. It can actually be a very spiritually uplifting book if you meditate on some of the new information you will discover about the "Lord's Prayer". It is quite profound. God Bless.

A great book - not full of doctrine but of information that leads back to when the Sermon on the Mount was given and what it would have meant to the Jews who were there. Jesus spoke to them in their own language - Hebrew. Understanding the original language and culture is vital in understanding what God has to us all said in His Word.

Nehemiah Gordon is a great story teller and very personable. I always feel like he is speaking directly to me. He lives in Israel and always goes to the exact place where things have really happened, guided by his vast knowledge of the Hebrew language and culture. By this he found the possible place where the famous sermon on the mount really took place, where there was enough room for the huge crowd and the accustic necessary to be heard. I have learned so much from Nehemiah.

Beautifully written and researched, I have been saying the LORD' prayer since I was old enough for my grandma to,teach me, I don't know if she knew what she was getting into, cause it was important for me to know what each sentence meant at an very young age of three or four , so every night I would go through each sentence and make sure I knew what I was saying and then I also had to feel" it , that i meant evey word in each sentence, God bless her heart for her patience and thank you LORD for my becoming a pastor 40 some out years later"*, may the LORD bless all those who read this treasure"...

Nehemia and Keith share their profound adventures as they seek to UNDERSTAND and truly KNOW this ancient prayer; Known all over the world by people of faith and unbelief alike, this simple prayer -- the "Our Father", the "Avinu", the "LORD's Prayer", the "Disciple's prayer", the "Model prayer", the "EMERGENCY PRAYER" is recited innumerable times each day. In fact, someone, somewhere is probably reciting this very prayer right now; I wonder if there is a time, day or night, that this prayer is not being recited.

Regardless of how you came to know, or know of, the prayer, until you read "A Prayer To Our Father" you really cannot know and appreciate it like you will afterwards.

This is an amazing book! The insight into the history, archeology and Hebrew text of the "Lord's Prayer" are mind blowing. Both authors bring the reader to the 'common ground' that they share in this much loved prayer and guides us into a deeper understanding of what this prayer is meant to teach us about Our Father, His love for us and ours for Him and for others. The richness of the Hebrew language through the ancient Hebrew manuscripts of the gospel of Matthew will astound you and forever change how you read or pray this prayer.
Whole new way of looking at the Lord's prayer. I like the fact that Keith Johnson and Nehemia Gordon each in turn write a chapter. Two very different perspectives yet these men find a common ground and have become very good friends through their journey in the Hebrew version of the Lord's prayer and comparing certain verses with the Greek. It led them to discover treasures in God's word that He wants us to understand.
