It was required reading in the Merryl Lynch training program back in 1969 when I was a participant. Published on March 1, 2015.

A helpful and/or enlightening book that is extremely well rounded, has many strengths and no shortcomings worth mentioning.

Reviews about How to buy stocks (7):
The best book I ever read on investing. Written for laymen in the fifties, all of the information on what stocks and bonds are is still relevant today. However the execution of buys and sells has changed dramatically since it happens on computers now, sometimes not to the good either.
I've given this book to friends over the years to acquaint them with basic concepts of investing for retirement. Helps explain the fundamentals of dollar cost averaging and compounding, two of the most pivotal concepts in building for retirement.
A great book for new investors. I remember reading it in the 70's and have been an investor since then (boy, the 80's and 90's were a great time to be in the market).
house fire destroyed my first edition. i'm very happy to get this classic through you. great refresher on how to buy stocks. great to read about the origins of our current system.
The problem with so, so many investment texts on the market is that the authors of the texts have a clear conflict of interest: read my book, buy my tapes and come to my seminar, and they'll teach you how to make a million dollars. A sucker is born every minute, and the dark scary world of investment books is proof of it.

This is the best book on investing, and how to measure value generally, that I've ever read. It's very, very old school. If you feel yourself attracted to the NYSE like a big exciting roulette table, but you don't know what a P/E ratio is or what a stock split really means, buy this book before you do anything stupid.
Dated but excellent primer to the various trading and investment vehichles available. Very informative. Even quite readable for such a boring topic. I highly recommend it to everyone, particularly older students and young adults. Should be required reading on some educational level. Would really like to see it updated to more accurately describe the newer physical markets.
I have used this book for years. I bought this copy for my granddaughter.
Still the best book around on how to buy stocks
Classic. Once my daughter reads this, we'll start investing together.
