Principles of molecular virology/Alan J. Cann. p. cm. Includes index. Although the Internet is far better than printed books for many things, there is clearly still a strong demand for this book because sometimes it’s good to have a core of knowledge in one place (. It is a highly enjoyable and readable text with numerous illustrations that enhance the reader's understanding of important principles. It also includes a CD-ROM with material that complements the text.

Alan J Cann’s new book, Principles of Molecular Virology is built around the par- adigms which unite virology .

Alan J Cann’s new book, Principles of Molecular Virology is built around the par- adigms which unite virology as a mature science. For this and other reasons his book is more suitable for an undergraduate class than any other text I have recently seen. In Principles of Molecular Virology, Alan Cann has attempted to tackle some of (these) problems by providing what is essentially a molecular virology lecture course in a short, straightforward, inex- pensive paperback that concentrates on the basic principles of molecular virology.

This work explores and explains the fundamental aspects of virology, including structure of virus particles and genome, replication, gene expression, infection, pathogenesis and subviral agents.

The fourth edition of the hugely successful Principles of Molecular Virology takes on a molecular approach, presenting the principles of virology in a clear and concise manner. This work explores and explains the fundamental aspects of virology, including structure of virus particles and genome, replication, gene expression, infection, pathogenesis and subviral agents. The self-assessment questions, glossary and abbreviations section provide excellent revision aids and serve as handy references to students, tutors and researchers alike. NEW TO FOURTH EDITION: * New material on virus structure and virus evolution * Updated pathogenesis section covering Ebola, SARS and HIV * New section on Bioterrorism * Fully updated references

* New material on virus structure, virus evolution, zoonoses, bushmeat, SARS and bioterrorism

I got this freakin amazing books which literally spells out every part of virology in great detail.

This book doesn't really talk much about pathology, it really just discusses molecular virology. Of course, one can extrapolate that from the title but still, just a heads up. Again, I find myself wanted more information on more viruses. It's definitely good for molecular virology if you just need an overview but if you are looking for a specific virus, you may not find it.

Overall the writing style is generally easy to follow, but there are many confusing passages (where a new concept may be introduced with no real effort to explain it.) At times the author gives the impression that he expects the reader to know absolutely nothing about viruses but virtually everything else about biology and biochemistry. Undergraduates will likely find it confusing at times, while graduates will likely crave something deeper.

The product was in good shape. It was delivered at the right time. I am satisfied with everything. As about the book, I have mixed opinion. Not the best around. But I did not have a choice since it is the text book.
