Tom Brown does an excellent job of describing the wilderness survival knowledge as taught to him by an elder Apache man he lovingly called grandfather. It`s a very deep book containing Native American lore and sayings. He not only describes the survival techniques but shares stories about how "grandfather" taught them to him and his trial and error experiences when trying them for the first couple of times. This makes the book more interesting and the techniques fun to learn and read about. He describes what "grandfather" taught him about finding water, edible plants, making cordage(rope) making fire, stalking and killing animals for food, making primitive hunting weapons such as bow and arrow, spear, clubs, axes and more. Making native american shelters such as a teepee, a wigwam, wikiup and leaf hut which may be the most valuable survival technique of all time. The is definitely in the top 3 in the list of the best wilderness survival books and should be in every survivalist and campers collection. The other 2 are "The Ultimate Guide to Wilderness Living" by John and Geri Mcpherson and "Outdoor Survival Skills" by Larry Dean Olsen. Jesus is the answer and God bless you :) Romans 10:9,10

I own several survival books. This one is hands down my favorite. The very first chapter on attitude is brief yet it says a lot, it's raight to the point and wakes you up immediately as to the importance of connecting with nature and tuning in to the earth and it's signs. It has lots of useful info and tips while in the wild but also has lessons for ways to learn even while at home or in a city. It has practice tips to improve your skills and gives you challenges for yourself to make learning these skills fun. This is still a great book for those that just want a quick reference but it's REAL value is for those that will read this from start to finish. I highly recommend this one

Tom Brown has been an inspiration to me since I was small. The little anecdotes and the lessons from Stalking Wolf help to drive the points home, and the illustrations are good. A great read, I highly recommend it. It covers everything in the order you need it, and refers to other topics by page number where appropriate. For example, if you're reading the section on shelter, and it mentions cordage, the page number for how to make cordage is indicated in parentheses. Very well thought out, and easy to read and understand.

If I had to pick only one book to learn from and share with others this would be it. It is very well written, and easy to learn from. I have a library of books, and most read like the dictionary. In this book you can feel Tom Brown's passion for Mother Earth. He has written many other books, but this one is his best. This is one of my favorite books.

Interesting read with practical info. Very entertaining. I wish the book was ten times bigger. I've read the whole cover to cover a few times & I bring it camping. In fact, it should be mandatory high school reading. Even for city folk like I use to be.

Fantastic book by a very interesting author.
This is a guide I grew up reading, I learned a lot from it over the years. I feel it's one of the best and easiest to understand survival guides out there.
I recently purchased 2 more copies, one each as permanent parts of my bugout and camping bags.
