The 2015 version of this book (brown cover with white violin) is basically the original book by Carl Flescher.
The 1970 version of this book (blue cover) includes everything the 2015 version has plus the following contents added by Max Rostal (one of Flescher's students): A forward by Rostal, alternate fingerings (both Flescher's and Rostal's appear on the page), and about 20 more pages of additional exercises at the end.

I actually bought the 2015 version thinking that the modern version must be more complete, but in fact the opposite is true. I'm docking off some stars because Amazon has separate item lists for the books but both share the same reviewer comments, and the 2015 version is strictly inferior than the older one in every way.

This scale book is like the mother of all scale books. I play the violin, and I will never need any other scales. Ever. My teacher has had one of these for the past 17 years, and she still loves it. I definitely recommend.

As a 5th year violinist I am pretty advance for how long I am play and once you get into the second part of this book where you add left hand plucking and harmonics into the scales it's really clear and it's so easy to read! I really do enjoy this book! It's better than any I have had in the past.

this a very good book for intermediate violin players. it is sort of the bible for a violin player. you can practice and master all the scales, arpeggios and different bowing with this.

The Carl Flesch system is great but my book is missing c major and its relative minor.
Good scale book that covers lots of violin techniques. Scales are the key of success. This book certainly has a lot to offer.
