Las Vegas is a city like no other and its history reflects that. Roman goes all the way back to the area's original residents, the Paiute Indian Tribe, who were able to survive in the desert due to the fact that Vegas actually sits on a spring well.

Las Vegas is a city like no other and its history reflects that. After a bumpy start with white settl I grabbed this while at Barnes & Noble because it looked interesting and I wasn't disappointed.

A collection of very interesting stories of Las Vegas history. Also has some nice photos - old and new. The maps are well detailed and add to the overall picture. I was particularly pleased to get the entire Flamingo Hotel story, I had never even heard of Billy Wilkerson who really started the resort so far out of town. Also had not heard of Tony Cornero, another important figure in gambling history.
You'll enjoy this book, especially if you visited or lived in Vegas in the 1950's - 1990's.

The chapters were concise and easy to read but also very informative. I enjoyed learning more about the actual founding of Las Vegas and found the information about the Rat Pack to be interesting. The only drawback I can see with this book is that I wish it was longer. If you are a fan of "Sin City" I think you will enjoy reading James Roman's history of Las Vegas.

This is a very informative book. I thought it was going to be just about Las Vegas in the early days of the casinos until now, but it starts off with the indians who originally owned the land. My only complaint is that at the end there is a histroy of gambling that I didn't care for, still it's a good book with a lot of history.

Great book for little stories of Las Vegas history. Well written and lots of pictures and maps to see where the stories took place.

I have read several books about Las Vegaa and this one is interesting in that it provides some of the sordid history of the city. If you plan to visit Vegas this will add a little spice to your visit.
X-MEN
Extremely interesting book.

This is a great history of the history of Las Vegas and a must read for anyone living and working here.
You can get some rehashed stories about old Vegas in here but the writing is uneven at best. It's a good read if you plan to go to Vegas and want to get in the mood.
