This book, though small in overall size, may be the most scholarly approach to the biographical life record of Conde B. McCullough. The detail of McCullough's early life, his education, experiences and influence by several respected educators and mentors helps understand the reasons that made him such an outstanding bridge engineer, designer and manager of those who worked for him and with him. He emphasized the economy of bridge construction and an attention to the particular needs of a bridge site. And he believed that a bridge should be aesthetically pleasing, not just to the observer or user, but, also to the site where it was built. His decades of work simply exemplify his brilliance in his approach to creative bridge design and construction. This book contains several important technical illustrations of bridge engineering and design, particularly the Freyssinet method of concrete arch construction and the Considere Hinge that sadly must be examined with a magnifying glass in order to satisfactorily understand the illustration.

I gave this book to my father last Christmas. He said he started reading it after opening it and could not put it down. A day later he was finished. He said he truly enjoyed the book and having worked with McCullough, it brought back many memories.
