Dwight D. Eisenhower. I'm in the military and like to read about the great generals and admirals that lead the US forces during WWII. I have read quite a few books on Eisenhower. This one he wrote late in life

Dwight D. This one he wrote late in life. Skip the early childhood chapters and go to his time in the army and later life. He talks his mind and addresses issues, like "favoritism" and "who you know" when he was promoted. He has a lot of good advice on how to live life. 7 people found this helpful.

At Ease book Eisenhower is a military man through and through by the overwhelming amount of military stories compared to the like, 2 stories.

Memoirs, anecdotes, reminiscence by President Eisenhower. The title AT EASE was perfect and the Stories I Tell to Friends, an invitation to an inside look at who this man was. The book did not disappoint. I had already read the biography chosen on the same trip but reading these scattered memories written by the man himself were so much more lively. Eisenhower is a military man through and through by the overwhelming amount of military stories compared to the like, 2 stories about his own family. Every story begs the question, um. .

I have read quite a few books on Eisenhower. This one he wrote late in life. Skip the early childhood chapters and go to his time in the army and later life. He talks his mind and addresses issues, like "favoritism" and "who you know" when he was promoted. He has a lot of good advice on how to live life.I enjoyed it more than "Crusade in Europe", that was more historically specific but without his personal insight that "At Ease" has.

I read Crusade in Europe and loved it so gave this a try and wasn't disappointed at all. I felt like so many things in this book were relevant to today, insightful, and entertaining. I have to say that on top of everything else this man was capable of, it seems like he's a great storyteller too. The book was better than most of what I've read in the last six months (which is a fair bit) and I haven't been able to stop recommending it to people I know.

General/President Eisenhower writes like he talks and the book is interesting as well as informative. It is a quick read because the writing is concise and well defined. I do recommend this book. It was my book club selection and I'm thankful for the opportunity to read it as I probably wouldn't have known about it otherwise.

Dwight Eisenhower was a very good writer. His greatness is reflected in his writing and you will get a glimpse of his sense of humor, especially his time at West Point. Definitely worth your time.

I enjoyed reading this book with Eisenhower telling personal stories of his life. It was good to read about his family life and his relationships to his brothers. How many young men in today's world work at any job they can get to send their brother to college? After reading this book I have even more respect for this great man!

I gave this book to my 80-year-old mother, who remembers Dwight Eisenhower from her younger years. She cried when I gave the book to her. When I first opened to the inside flap, I saw that the book had been a long-ago gift to someone else and the giver wrote..."To the soldier in you." I left the inscription in the book and wrote to my mother, telling her she also has a soldier in herself. She's a brave woman who loves people and their stories. She has since told me that the At Ease book is very good. I believe in Providence and I believe that book with that heartfelt note from the past was meant for my mother in the present.

Good transaction. Good read.
Written in his own words, no other book offers a better insight into the personal values and character of Dwight Eisenhower, both as a young man and during his career in the Army. This book is a must read for those trying to understand the humanity and charm of the man who came to command the allied armies in Europe against the Nazis during the Second World War.
