This book and the other two, will give the reader insight that have not been seen in movies or TV what some of the troops went through during the second world war.
I grew up with this author, and we keep in touch. There's more to Jerry that people don't know. I have tried to get Jerry to write a book about Jerry? He has a fantastic ability to put you into the action.. His book, "Paratrooper" ,took him over ten years to research and write. This book "Silent Wings". was writen, because someone asked him to do it. And that was was a Glider Pilot.
Looking forward to his next writings.

A very good history of the men of the WWII combat Glider force. The only pilots not to have parachutes issued and they were 100% volunteers. Their pilot's wings had a large G in the middle and Gen Eisenhower stated it stood for GUTS. These guys were expendable according to the military who planned on them making one trip, a lot did, some made more. My Dad was one of these Silent Heroes who are only now getting credit for their contributions to WWII long after a lot of them have taken "Their Last Flight".
Now out of print but available if you look hard.

An interesting history on a little known part of WWII airborne/aviation (glider) operations. I find just the little bit I have read so far and the book pictures I have reviewed as highly interesting and informative.

These men were amazing in their unsung bravery. Well-written books like these may help their deeds and sacrifices be acknowledged in time..

My 90 year old Dad was a combat glider pilot but doesn't talk about it so this book was of special interest to me. The photos could have come out of his war time scrape book . Would recommend it to all WWII buffs.

Came is great condition. I bought it as a gift for my Dad, and he loved the book. His uncle was a glider pilot.

Mr. Devlin's "Silent Wings" is a great account of the US Army's glider forces during World War Two. It is well researched and well written. It contains a lot of historical information about the early days of the Army's glider training program and the problems of designing and building combat gliders in the United States.
The book contains detailed information about the many airborne and glider operations during the war. Of special interest is the descriptions of operations in Burma and the Phillipines. Mr. Devlin has skillfull included many first hand accounts into his book. The accounts give insight into the problems and luck that accompany the airborne soldier into battle. The book contains many photographs and specifications on the various glider designs used by the US Army. Although not as detailed as "History of the World's Glider Forces" by Alan Wood "Silent Wings" it is solidly researched and easy to read.
Well written and researched, "Silent Wings" rates and airborne "Hoo-ah!!"
A very good history of wartime gliders.
