2) The Lange-Simpson cellphone conversation. Still in awe of the whole OJ Simpson case. This book is perfect for those. like me, who can't get enough inside details about the "case of the century". Highly recommend this book!

2) The Lange-Simpson cellphone conversation. If these 13 items of dismissed evidence had been admitted, would they have changed the verdict? Lange and Vannatter do not say so. With the composition of the jury and with the racist salesmanship of Johnnie Cochran, and with Judge Ito at the bench, a conviction may have been impossible. Still, those items should have been admitted.

For better or worse, we will be remembered for what has become our career-defining case, the . Simpson murder investigation. We took over the probe of the Nicole Brown and Ronald Goldman homicides during the early morning of june 13, 1994 when it was just a few hours old, and then worked it for the next sixteen months. Fairly or unfairly, before a national television audince, we represented not just the Los Angeles Police Deparment but the 600. 000 police officers across America.

A gripping account from the detectives point of view. Seems to be the only factual account of the Nicole Brown Simpson / Ronald Goldman murder and the trial of O.J. Simpson. The detail in which the detectives layout the evidence is riveting. Why it was not presented during the trial is truly confounding. I highly recommend this book, especially in light of the recent mini-series and so much of the misinformation that was circulating during and after.

Read this before and loved it. I wanted to re read it as that travesty they had on TV recently was such crap!

The only reason I love it and give it a 5 star rating is because these bumbling veteran detectives, are so stupid that they fail to edit the inclusions within their own book that indicate that others who call them a fraud are affirmed. Take the documentary SERPENTS RISING: The OJ Simpson Conspiracy, or the book "PURSUIT OF EXHIBIT 35 in the OJ Simpson Murder Trial and its Hidden Secrets", their premise from their investigative discoveries is that the LAPD, LADA, and specific Simpson defense team members entered an unholy alliance to conceal specific evidence from the jury in both trials, and the public as well, that would have exonerated Simpson. Those above productions highlight the fact that the initial time of Juditha Brown's final phone call to her daughter, Nicole Brown Simpson, did not take place at 09:37 PM but much later and closer to the 11:00 PM time first stated by Nicole's father the morning after her death on 06/13/94 to one of the authors of this book, Detective Tom Lange. The mother Juditha would independently state the same of 11PM three days later to defense investigators and to Robert Shapiro on 06/16/94, and F. Lee Bailey would do the same asserting that the final phone call was at 11 PM on the CBS morning show with Harry Smith and Paula Zahn on 06/27/94. These sworn officers of the court by entering this clandestine alliance to conceal the truth continue to be overshadowed by their own revelations of the truth of what they did, to take Simpson out of that chauffeur driven limo at 11 PM to LAX, by turning the time back to give OJ Simpson time to commit double homicide. Now you have two more Keystone cops, Dets. Lange and Vannatter, stumbling and bumbling in this book EVIDENCE DISMISSED by revealing their own participation in this malfeasance as well as that of other officers of the court in totally LOST ANGELES COUNTY.

These detectives point out on page 142-143 of their book that the Brown family departed L.A.'s Brentwood, Mezzaluna Restaurant, at approximately 08:45 PM and arrived at the far end of Orange County, to their residence in Monarch Bay, Dana Point, in time to make the crucial alleged final phone call back to Brentwood and the Mezzaluna to locate Juditha Brown's lost eye glasses at 09:37 PM. Thus, everything including the time of travel through 19 stop lights, and 4 ninety degree turns, a crowded I-405 Freeway, and a security check point at the entrance of their gated community
and the telephone call back to Brentwood all occurred within 52 minute time window. However, when you turn the pages of this book back 114 pages to page 28, you will see where Detectives Lange and Vannatter state with formidable affirmation that the Brown family lived a minimum of 90 minutes away from Brentwood. This is why we would have to agree with the OMIG investigators who produced SERPENTS RISING and wrote the book PURSUIT OF EXHIBIT 35 that the Juditha Brown phone records, (both available at Amazon), secretly absconded from the Simpson case file per the request of DA Gil Garcetti's office, by a motion for court order for their permanent removal signed by Judge John H. Ried, on 04/24/98 should be returned and replaced in the exhibit case file BA-097211 THE PEOPLE VS. OJ SIMPSON, so that the actual time, (changed 3 times no less),
can be completely verified. Just more evidence of official malfeasance in a conspiracy to frame OJ Simpson by a department out of control.

book came in great shape

For the Simpson case, a main dish is THE RUN OF HIS LIFE by Jeffrey Toobin. He covered the criminal trial for THE NEW YORKER magazine, and he was involved in one of the trial's newsworthy incidents. An alternative main dish is WITHOUT A DOUBT by lead prosecutor Marcia Clark. Her book lacks the neat narrative order of Toobin's, but it is more immersive. And I liked her. Both of these books give a reasonably thorough account of the criminal trial. For the civil trial, and for a pleasing denouement to the Simpson case, read Daniel Petrocelli's TRIUMPH OF JUSTICE.

EVIDENCE DISMISSED, by Detective Tom Lange and Detective Philip Vannatter, is not as detailed as either of those main dishes. But it is a tasty dessert. Not only does it provide some tidbits that the other books omit, it makes some corrections. For example Toobin says that Detective Lange used his cellphone to speak with A. C. Cowlings during the white Bronco slow-chase. Actually Lange spoke only to O. J. Simpson, who seemed on the verge of suicide. EVIDENCE DISMISSED provides a transcript of that dramatic conversation.

The book's worst quality is its lack of index. It does have many interesting "Endnotes," which you should consider mandatory reading, and it has a few nice black-and-white photos.

One of the exasperating issues with the criminal trial was the evidence that was left out. Thus the title of this book. Near the end, the authors summarize 13 such items mentioned in the narrative. Two are my favorites. (1) The Lange-Vannatter interview with Simpson on the day after the killings. (2) The Lange-Simpson cellphone conversation. And during the civil trial, some of them WERE admitted, including my two favorites.

The authors' story exudes an air of honest professionalism. As participants in the case, they made mistakes. For example, Lange covered Nicole's corpse with a blanket, an act that the defense attacked because it may have contaminated the crime scene. But Lange and Vannatter were there because it was their job. They were not called out of bed in the middle of the night to plant evidence. They were not part of some intricate, imaginary scheme to frame O. J. Simpson. They were detectives.

AMAZING BEHIND THE SCENE, ACCOUNT OF A TRAGEDY.

Excellent book. Explains the complexity of the case and answers many questions about why OJ got away with it. Karma is a _____ ain't it OJ!
This well-researched book provides a different perspective - that of the detectives who investigated the crime. Despite being grossly maligned, they actually did a thorough job. If all the evidence they had accumulated was used wisely by the prosecutors, I have no doubt that O. J. would have been convicted. The prosecutors definitely bungled their job, falling prey to the defense's stunts, showmanship and superior tactics. This book sheds a new light on the trial.
