I'm doing a report on this lady and the Norwegians that settled in Texas. So far I like the book very much

This is an amazing account of one pioneer's pilgrimage to America in the mid-nineteenth century. Her stories (actually personal letters) written to friends and family in Norway document a day in the life of someone eking out a meager existence in the harsh landscape of Texas. Her influence was instrumental in encouraging many Norwegians to settle in Texas. Her letters are genuinely transparent in portraying what it was like to survive a foreign land and language. Elise Waerenskjold`s triumphal spirit is infectious and inspiring as she conquered a new beginning for many and became a great woman in Texas history.

I actually grew up in this area, and in one of the homes that Elise lived. It was a book my father had had and I had read as a young adult. I was so thrilled to be able to find my own copy!! Upon reading it again, I realized much more about Prairieville, and Kaufman County Texas. Very well pieced together and referenced.
