I thought that Jean Haner's The Wisdom of Your Child's Face provided a good starting point for those of us who are unfamiliar with the art of Chinese face reading.

Throughout the book she provides dozens of beautiful color photographs, which were very instrumental in helping the reader follow along as she described the many different characteristics of each facial feature profiled.

I also loved the way the author broke down the five elements: water, wood, fire, earth, and metal. Her explanation of how these elements fit into the cycles of life, as well as how to work with the archetypes, strengths and challenges of each one were absolutely fascinating. Her descriptions are filled with compassionate understanding and helpful tips.

To give the reader an idea of each of the elements "at work" in a child's life, the author discusses a variety of case studies, which I'm sure every parent would appreciate. This book could definitely be considered one of the best manuals for helping those of us who interact with children--especially ways in which we can engage each child's unique way of exploring the world around them according to their individual temperaments.

Don't get this book in Kindle Paperwhite format. The illustrations are lost. Photos are washed out in the simplicity of bright light vs. darker contrast. For example, she'll refer to the philtrum or the half circles developing as seen in a child's picture. These can't be seen at all on the Paperwhite. She is an interesting author. Now I have to buy the book twice!

I really enjoyed this book as it unlocked the mystery of why people do certain things, react in certain ways and just don't seem to think in the same ways as others. I knew that there were different personality types and different styles of learning, however, when you can actually know a person by the features that are prominent in their face - you are way ahead of the curve. This will also help me better understand my 8 year old daughter and how to lovingly support her growth. I recommend this to anyone, even if you don't have children, it will help you understand people from all walks of life and of every age.

I was bit hesitant about ordering this book, concerned it would be a rehash of Jean's former book. Inevitably, there is some repetition, yet I was pleasantly surprised. The perspective from parent-child perspective deepened my understanding of face reading. As someone who has been studying the face for a while, small variations on the theme with new faces - accentuates the features within the context of the five elements; and there are few new features introduced. The analysis of a few children toward end of book has been very helpful. This book contains also subtle new insights such as an example of how a fire element manifests when showing on water feature. Highly recommended.

Another excellent book that complements Jean's work is "The Face Reader: Discover Anyone's Personality, Compatibility, Talents, and Challenges Through Chinese Face Reading" by Patrician McCarthy.

Oh my gosh! So revolutionary - such valuable information to support us as parents to comprehend our children's innate nature and soul needs. I wish everyone could read this wise illumination from Jean. Highly recommended. It's transformed my parenting!

I really like this book, because it's based on feng shui and ancient Chinese wisdom, of which I'm a big fan. I highly recommend you take pictures (head shots) of the children in your life (with their hair pulled off their face) and keep the printed copies inside the book. Otherwise, you may find yourself getting up every few minutes to ask your child to let you look at him/her/them (and they'll think you're crazy). It helps a parent accept particular quirks as being an intentional aspect of their child. If you are the type who knows your child's sun sign and you appreciate discovering even more about who they really are and may become, you'll probably enjoy this book.

This is so interesting. I am a teacher, and after reading about each element that influences our children's paths in life, I was able to identify several of my students from last year. I wish I had had this knowledge about them during the school year. I will be using this new knowledge to help me interact with all my future students.
I love Jean's approach to explaining the characteristics of our face and how they match our personality and that it is all intentional. As I now look at face's and already know certain people's personalities, I see how she is right on.
