Help Yourself: Finding Hope, Courage, and Happiness is a 2000 self-help book by American author Dave Pelzer. It is the fourth book that Pelzer has written prior to The Privilege of Youth which continues the "Child Called "It" series. In the book, Pelzer discusses the path to the accomplishment of life's goals. He explains how anyone can move beyond a painful past full of negativity and setbacks, recalling struggles from his own life and that of others

In this self-help book, Pelzer sticks with his warm and plainspoken narrative style (think Chicken Soup for the Soul) to offer advice on how to help yourself overcome adversity and let go of the past.

In this self-help book, Pelzer sticks with his warm and plainspoken narrative style (think Chicken Soup for the Soul) to offer advice on how to help yourself overcome adversity and let go of the past. Wisely, Pelzer often deflects attention away from his overpowering story. Instead, he offers anecdotes that pertain to more common, everyday scenarios: you feel taken advantage of at work but are afraid to quit; you have unresolved issues with your spouse. From Library Journal. Peltzer, whose triumph over a deeply abusive childhood is recounted in a trilogy that includes A Child Called "It," explains how we can move beyond our painful pasts.

This is a terrific book for middle schoolers through adults. It helps readers to identify their learning style and then offers very practical ideas on how to apply that information to a variety of situations/tasks. It is organized by questions like "How can I remember what I read?" to the ever popular "How can I remember phone numbers?" My students love the upbeat easy to use format and the advice given is good.
