Making huge changes in my life. Redefining myself, for the second half of my life.

Overcome by horror, guilt and fear in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, Detective Amanda Ross finds herself unable to return to the job. Things only get worse with the arrival of her 30th birthday, as her neighbor is killed in an explosion-leaving Amanda severely hurt and the woman's young son without a mother. Yet a heartfelt request from reclusive rock star Mitch Black, and a burning desire to find the boy's long-absent father, drives Amanda to get off her ass and back into the world. In making that journey, she meets Jeannie, a comely grad student and computer instructor-whose lesson plan might just include a field trip to Amanda's heart.
Reviews about For Pete's Sake (2):
A slight change of pace from the author's debut, "Letter Perfect." This new one is more emotionally charged, taking place as it does so close to 9/11. Det. Amanda Ross is more volatile, and more reckless as she forces herself to move on, to get her act together and to get back to being a cop.
The multiple storylines in "For Pete's Sake" interweave nicely, but not TOO neatly, making for a pleasurable read. Like "Letter Perfect," this one's a fast read, filled with interesting supporting characters, sharp dialogue and a few lyrical passages. There's an inherent sadness to the book, including a point or two that might move the reader to tears, but fortunately, the main character doesn't take herself so seriously that she sinks her story.
And unlike so many sequels, "For Pete's Sake" doesn't spend too much time recounting past events. Instead, a newcomer to N.H. Avenue could enjoy this one just as easily as someone who read "Letter Perfect" cover to cover.
Is it a coincidence that "N.H. Avenue" is a nom de plume for David Abolafia, and the above review is by davida882?
