Leo Bradford is a gay publishing magnate who is learning to love again after a devastating tragedy. Barry Chambers is a playboy attorney with a working-class background who is starting to realize that the chip he's carried on his shoulders all these years doesn't go too well with the bespoke suits that have become his trademark. Joey Ramirez is a high-flying fashion designer who has managed to triumph over a life of abuse and neglect to become one of the most successful clothiers in the world. And Duke Maynard is a recently-retired NFL star facing the challenges of successfully transferring his competitive energies from his gridiron past to his entertainment world future. These four men have a history and bond that could be torn apart by a night of passion one of them had long ago. The VIPs, who haven't seen one another in years, are greeted at the Hotel Gansevoort by an openly hostile TNT, who asks them the bombshell question: "Which one of you bastards is my father?"  Shocking, hilarious, suspenseful, and, ultimately, incredible moving, The VIPs will have readers furiously turning the pages to find out who the real father is.

Reviews about The VIPs: A Novel (7):

Scott Poulson-Bryant's novel, "The VIPs" is a must read. With storytelling reminiscent of early Jackie Collins & Judith Krantz, this novel weaves together a tapestry of love, betrayal, drama, twists, turns, secrets, intrigue & suspense. He gives us Barry, Duke, Leo, & Joey aka "The VIPs"-(some Very Important People) who are characters as multi-layered & multi-dimensional as their richly textured background (HIS)tories. An obvious ode to the early 80's miniseries, "Lace," based on the Shirley Conran novel, with its opening sequence, Poulson-Bryant updates that storytelling style with a fresh, hip, vivacious cast of unforgettable characters just vying to be lifted off the page and presented to scene-steal on the silver screen. The voices of whites, blacks, hispanics, the rich, the affluent, the upper & middle class, as well the poor, but persevering, tragedy-ladened, poverty-strickened underlings converge here in a colorful choir singing a diverse, yet universal lyric. Like an infectious melody, this literary SOUL song won't let the reader go.

I started reading this book in the middle of the debt-ceiling "debates." I needed something to counter the gloom and doom of the news and The VIPs did the trick. A danger in having four main characters could have been flat characterization. But Paulson-Bryant took care to fully expand each of the young men as they matured into adulthood.A few of the minor characters also are developed. The men are called to an unexpected reunion when they are summoned to the home of a young hip hop star who then asks them which is his father. The flashbacks are seamless and provide valuable background. The end is satisfying but in the way good books are...I didn't want to say farewell to the guys. Tuck this one in your beach bag!!

It's funny how one simple question could take a whole novel to answer. I loved how that author got into the characters, but my only complaint was the dragged on a bit too much. The colorful characters and plot twists made up for it.

The best part about this book is that it told a story about all the characters. You didnt have to guess who is who and where did they fit in. The ending was surprising also. Scott, please give us more!!!

Dont wanna spoiled this book for anyone but it is a must have,4 friends
in which life constantly bring them back together. it truly made you believe
in fate how much this book came and went and how you started cheering
for a character only to have wait, yes this book keeps it going that you have
to hit the last page to get the icing to the cake, Wondering about a book 2
really need to see a sequel personally.

Really would like a refund on this book. There was not much plot, and the ending was just crazy stupid. Save your money.
The beginning is a bit slow and, the back and forth was a bit off putting, but the book picks up speed towards the end and ties up things, even unexpected occurrences, neatly. Overall a good book.
