With the candid quirkiness of Awkward Family Photos and the confessional intimacy of PostSecret, Ransom Riggs's Talking Pictures is a haunting collection of antique found photographs-with evocative inscriptions that bring these lost personal moments to life-from the author of the New York Times bestselling illustrated novel Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.

This second novel begins in 1940, immediately after the first book ended. Along the way, they encounter new allies, a menagerie of peculiar animals, and other unexpected surprises.

Ransom Slave is a story of a young gay boy's effects to come to terms with his own submissive nature and to find out where he belongs in this crazy world. The story reviews the young life of James, a poor, 18 year old, very good looking gay boy, who quickly comes to realize that he owns only two things of any real value, his beautiful body and big cock. James decides to leave his fag hating hometown in Indiana and try his luck in the big city of Los Angeles. In the course of his journey James will find out the true meaning of the saying that, "Men are both good and evil." Due to his all to trusting nature and his over baring desire to find a dominate man that he can trust, James is ripped off, betrayed, lied too and brutalized. The story tells of James' transformation from a very inexperienced gay boy into a major porn star and high priced hustler in Los Angeles, to a strictly controlled daddies boy in Paris France, to being brutally trained to be a total slave in Morocco, Nort

By my own review criteria, I'm being generous giving this novel 3 stars. However, the plot was excellent for this kind of story and it was obvious the author put a lot of thought into it. Ransom Slave is the tale of one young man's journey in submission and sexual slavery. Naturally, he starts out innocent and easily manipulated, going from one con artist straight into the arms of another, until he finally finds himself in a situation in which he is truly powerless. The ideas expressed are great and thought provoking, and the progression of the story itself works well for the overall theme. The other reviewer states that the story is realistic, as in something that might actually happen. I must disagree. There are moments in the story that could mirror real life, but much of it is erotic fantasy that exists only in an active imagination. That does nothing to detract from the story. The major flaw is not in the story itself, it's in the telling. The prose is very amateurish, to put it nicely, lacking in the color and poetry that make a great story sing, so that even the most erotic moments are somehow flat and clinical. Added to that, I can only surmise that the author himself is new to the English language, for throughout the book he uses odd words in the wrong places: where he meant "shake" and "shaking," we get "shack," and "Shacking." Where the meaning indicates the use of the word "What," we instead find "While." "Gravy dish," or perhaps "gravy boat," becomes amusingly in this book, "gravy desk." The author also seems unfamiliar with the concept of past and present tense, as both are frequently used in the same sentence. Where the sentence demands the word "shoot," we find "shot," etc.
To recap, the plot is great, and this could have been a fantastic erotic adventure story had it been polished and placed in the hands of a competent editor. If you're really into this theme, than Ransom Slave is worth an afternoon's reading, as long as poor grammer, spelling, and stiff prose do not distract you.

Wonderful story. An enjoyable read about a true submissive. A story of a man who learned early in life he was special. A gay man, naturally muscular with a large endowment. But to me it was a good story. The hardship he went through, the mystery of his life on how he became a slave. It's a good read. A reviewer had difficulty with the words and how they were spelled. Maybe the writers use of the English language is foreign to but is language of where he grew up. Some of us can't spell properly either but this a story to read and enjoy. Let's enjoy what the writer says about his character. It's a great book about life, loneliness and what is important to us

RANSOM SLAVE IS NOT YOUR USUAL WHIPS AND CHAINS, MALE DOMINATION STORY LINE. THE PLOT IS A REFRESHINGLY NEW STORY LINE. IT IS A FAIRLY WELL WRITTEN STORY ABOUT HOW A DROP DEAD GORGEOUS, EXTREMELY WELL-BUILT, AND HEAVY HUNG, YOUNG MAN, MANAGED TO GO FROM BEING AN INEXPERIENCED, 18 YEAR OLD BOY, IN A SMALL MIDWESTERN TOWN, TO WILLINGLY BEING COLLARED AND TRAINED TO BE A TOTAL SLAVE.

CATCHING AND TRAINING SUCH A PHYSICALLY PERFECT MALE SPECIMEN AND ACTUALLY SUCCEED IN TRAINING HIM TO BE A TOTAL SLAVE, IS CONSIDERED TO BE IMPOSSIBLE, BY MOST GAY MALE SLAVE OWNERS. SUCH PHYSICALLY PERFECT MALES ARE USUALLY ONLY TO BE FOUND DANCING THEIR ASSES OFF IN A GAY BAR, WHILE PLAYING PRETTY ME GAMES. IN RANSOM SLAVE THE IMPOSSIBLE HAPPENS.

THE STORY LINE WILL MANAGE TO HOLD THE READER'S ATTENTION, BECAUSE IT PRESENTS MANY NEW AND SOME UNEXPECTED TWISTS AND TURNS IN THE PLOT. ALSO, UNLIKE MANY GAY MALE SLAVERY STORIES, THE EVENTS IN THIS BOOK ARE ACTUALLY POSSIBLE. THE STORY LINE IS ORIGINAL AND NOT YOUR USUAL REHASH OF OLD IDEAS.

THE ONLY REAL CRITICISM OF THE BOOK THAT I HAVE IS THE FACT THAT THE SLAVE ON THE COVER DOES NOT EVEN COME CLOSE TO MATCHING THE MAIN CHARACTER OF THE STORY. SEVERAL BONER BOOKS, SUCH AS "SLAVE BOY," "A SLAVE'S LIFE," AND "THE LOW ROAD," HAVE COVERS THAT WOULD HAVE BE BETTER MATCHES FOR THIS STORY LINE.
