The stories range from odd to hilarious and after reading 2 of them, I couldn't leave the bookstore without this little gem of a book. And I love that Nate Denver's Neck has written a folk/death metal song based on the ballet, Swan Lake.

These follow the same fantastical themes as the book and are wonderful. Three stand out tracks are Snuggle Tummy about a vengeful stuffed toy, 4 Horsemen about Slayer (mp3 here on Nate’s site) and The Prince, the Queen and the Corpse about a ballet dancer who does a deal with a demon to get revenge.

A collection of 50 fifty- word stories by musician/ artist/ writer/ triathelete/ ice cream lover/ renaissance man Nate Denver. At turns scary, sweet, totally bizarre, hilarious, and always heartfelt, these 50 stories read a lot like haiku poems, except, well-- longer. Nate also did a bunch of drawings for the book, and they rule. This book also contains a full-length, 21 song CD, "Ghost Alarm", by Nate Denver's Neck (which is, strangely enough, the same guy as the author. go figure.) Introduction by Adam Jones of Tool.

I got this book about a year and a half ago and it is a great read. Stories are funny, sad, disturbing, confusing, arousing and just good old fun. The CD (Ghost Alarm) in the other hand. Simply a work of genious. As I said I bougt this book a year and a half ago and the CD has been in my car ever since. Even after I bought a new car and actually had the time to clean my car out and reorganize my cd case Ghost Alarm is definetly back in my rotation. The combo pack of CD & book is definetly worth it and anyone will surely enjoy both.

Nate Denver is one of the most creative artists I have ever heard. From his fables of Snuggle Tummy to battles with demons, no matter what he writes it's always entertaining. I saw him play at Che Cafe in San Diego back in 2002 and it might have changed my life forever.

The book is amazing, at first I opened and laughed, then I started to think about it. It would be very hard to write 50 short stories that are exactly 50 words long. I mean really, try doing it even once and you will discover it is pretty difficult.

I highly suggest this book to anyone that loves entertaining stories and music.

Despite the fact that this book's first sentence has a bad typo (an apostrophe error), it is a wonderful little book of drawings and surreal ultra-short stories that are somewhat like children's fairy tales for adults. As a bonus, there is an album by Nate Denver's Neck that is one of my top albums of all time: lo-fi, lyrical, catchy, deep, with mellow beats and interesting samples, NDN is as adept at songs as he is literary writing and drawing. Being both a book and CD, this is well worth the price. Funny, serious, surreal, honest/heartfelt, personal, and imaginative.

down to earth and mysteriously magical lo-fi-hiphop-deathmetal-folk-gospel -- what a wonderful discovery.
MACE is an instant hit, and with song like 4 horsemen, ballad of the bullied demons, and snuggle tummy, you really can't go wrong.

nate denver is so weird and funny and genius. you will find yourself coming back to this book over and over whenever you need a chuckle.

i keep this book on my nightstand - on crappy days it totally cheers me up. on good days it makes the ending better. and the illustrations are awesome too. get this book!
