Until I read Adam's Wish, I had never before considered writing to an author to say thank yo. This book is a helpful guide to the unknown poetry of Tahirih.

Until I read Adam's Wish, I had never before considered writing to an author to say thank yo. Each poem is carefully explicated by authors Hatcher and Hemmat-delving into the symbolism and use of religious iconography. As a Baha'i, this poetry held particular significance for me as it connected me further with Tahirih's absolute love for God and sense of divine purpose. Her call to action which trumpets throughout all her works is one that will feel particularly relevant in modern life.

by John S. Hatcher and Amrollah Hemmat. Wilmette, IL: Bahá’í Publishing Trust, 2011. Altogether nine years of translator artists’ craftsmanship to recognize, re-create, and reveal the work of a woman poet breaking ancestral silence and whom, one might imagine, they seem to have met and conversed with, rather than merely having encountered through read about her history.

Tahirih, the remarkable poetess of nineteenth-century Persia, penned many poems that were either thought to be lost or remained untranslated. This outstanding volume contains a number of previously unpublished and largely unknown poems both in their original calligraphy and in English. Many of these poems relate to Tahirih's spiritual beliefs. She often refers to Adam, the first Prophet of God, and the Prophets of the past to reveal her insights into the process by which God empowers his messengers to educate humanity. It is through this process that the wish of Adam and all the Prophets of the past to witness the day when humanity will reach its full spiritual potential is fulfilled. Tahirih announces that day has now come.

Excellent insights into the Adamic cycle.

This is an excellent book! New thoughts on the age old story of Adam as a Prophet, also as representing the experience of Humankind.

This book made me think differently about God, religion, and especially Adam. It was a mind-altering experience of the best sort. Hatcher challenges the reader to think bigger and deeper, to push past assumptions, and to ponder the meaning of words in new light. I hesitate to say too much here, because part of the thrill of reading the book is the discoveries you make as you read along. How good was it? Until I read Adam's Wish, I had never before considered writing to an author to say thank you. In this case, I simply had to share my gratitude with a writer who opened my mind. Mr. Hatcher wrote back, magnifying my delight!
