This book introduced me to the world of Nordic mythology as a child, and I was thrilled to find a used copy on Amazon! It's exactly like I remember, full of the same stories (taken mostly from the Prose Edda) and illustrations that captivated my imagination when I was younger. It's certainly more accessible than the Edda itself, but it's fairly verbose. It also gets a little grim (though not necessarily graphic) at times (beheadings, mutilation, etc), so I'd recommend it for, I don't know, ages 10+? Great collection, gorgeous illustrations, and a fun point of entry into a fascinating mythology.

I got this book for my daughter she was 5 at the time. She still (3 years later) loves to look at the page with Yggdrasil, and all the gods and ask me to tell her the stories. Thor's marriage is her favorite. These are children's versions of the classic stories from the eddas. Viking, dragons, gods, and giants what's not to love.

A most remarkable book replete with exciting tales of the Norse gods of Viking myth. Great for young peple and adult,s too. Vividly illustrated and well written this book will stoke the fires anyone curious, or even passionate, about Norse mythology . Odin, Thor, Frey and Freya, Balder, Frigga , and of course that old trickster Loki are all present, and so much more besides. A real treasure this book. I'm really happy to have added it to my library. I gave it 4 stars because the book's condition was slightly lunker part than what I expected, but not too bad at all. Highly recommended for lovers of Viking myths and legends!

I really enjoyed this book. As a fan of the History Channel's series, "Vikings", I appreciated being able to read all those stories Floki refers to on the show. I knew very little about Viking mythology before I read this book, and I found it very accessible. The stories were good and the illustrations were excellent. My personal favorite picture was of Freya with her chariot pulled by cats! Yeah, that would happen! I also liked that there was a pronunciation guide in the back. I can't praise this book highly enough!

This is a fantastic book I remember from my childhood and it is a joy to rediscover it and share it with my kids. The weaving in of the tricking of Gylfi as an introduction to the tales is a great way to set the scene and draw the reader in.
