I like to read these Covington books for the comfort they give in this crazy ever changing and challenging world. This latest story from JMedlicott tells of how people are changing in Covington but one thing does remain constant. The goodness and caring of the Ladies....Amelia, Hannah and Grace. This is the perfect book to read at the end of the day during the hectic holiday season, or any time really. JM weaves her storyline around believable events of our time and gives her veiled opinion of the war in Afghanistan and Iraq, irresponsible men, and the gossip mill that happens in church communities. There are also less dramatic changes that will add a smile. I don't want to give anything away here. Just say that it was an enjoyable read that "changes" with each chapter and opens the door for more books about life in Covington.

I'm a 78 year old sentimental "old fool." These books are like those "Christmas letters" that friends send us except that these take a lot longer to read. After 8 of these "letters," books really, all the people in them you know and it makes you eager for answers to your query of "what's new?" What fun.

I would like it much better if the author were allowed to keep the Covington name in the title of the book. She has written other books not in the series. The first book in the series, The Ladies of Covington Send Their Love, is a delight. The next several books in this series have Covington in their title. I also prefer hardbacks, and now they are coming out in softcover only. The quality of the paper is noticeably poor. The publisheres are shortchanging the author and readers !

Having said my piece, I did like this book, read it almost straight through ! The Covington saga continues, always an interesting plot.

I believe this is the last book Joan Medlicott has written about the Covington ladies. I sure do hope she has another book in the works as I hate to have the series end. I am near the age of these ladies and have enjoyed reading about how they are coping with life in their late 60s and 70s and with widowhood. Joan writes about some of my same concerns and feelings, so I feel as if the Ladies are close friends of mine.
