Praise for God's Children. Harold Coyle is the best natural storyteller I know

Praise for God's Children. Harold Coyle is the best natural storyteller I know. Harold Coyle, rightfully acclaimed the Tim Clancy of ground warfare, has crafted not only a superb technothriller, but also a classic tale of men at war. God's Children is the best tale of a small unit of desperate men trapped behind enemy lines I've read in years. Grifiin, author of the bestselling Brotherhood of War series. Coyle is a master at high-tech suspense. He spins his story with such power that you're swept along to the climatic finish

Professor Rutledge gives a view of race relations that reflects the experience and respect shown to people who earn that respect regardless of station, color, creed, gender or politics. Everyone who reads this work and who has know and worked along side these good folks understands who these people are and the rich and unique culture from which they have come. The period in which this work was written was in the late 1940's. One must ask .....Have we truly helped these people by destroying their self respect by condemning what they had made for themselves in beginning with nothing and with little more with their own hands only because those accomplishments do not meet our idealogical criteria for success ?"
An enjoyable read.

Absolutely wonderful. As Archibald once wrote, "Not often is any tribute paid to the Negro as a woodsman....." but he surely did paid tribute to the Negros in is life when he wrote this book. A must read for any Black hunter or Outdoorsman today or for the person who wants a positive first hand account of the Negro's ability in nature, wood crafting, engineering, hunting, or anything else outdoor related. Too often attention is given to the negative and confrontational relationships that existed between Blacks and Whites in our country but this book gives a different look into the co-existing and friendly relationships that sometimes existed between Confederate Whites of the South and their Black cohorts.

A must read for those that enjoy stories from days of old.

Not Coyle's best work...it flows well but Nathan Dixon's character isn't fleshed out enough...seems forced into a situation that doesn't resolve during the book nor is it explored more throughout the book. Earlier books do this much better including resolution.

Harry Coyle has written several excellent books over the years, sad to say this isn't one of them. I was very disappointed. I felt it was poorly written and edited. The plot was mediocre and the entire story line was just not up to par. The rivalry between the two lieutenants was sophmoric and the ending was inane. Why not let us know how Lt. Dixon made it back to brigade hq and how the platoon was rescued. Thye whole possible romance was pointless. It seemed that Coyle grew weary of writing and just decided he had enough. Whats with the title? It didn't seem remotely related to the book. I strongly recommend against reading this book.

I (accidently) met the author at his home in 1963; what a thrill to read this book. A lovely man, a wonderful read.

This is a very sweet story of the high regard many whites had for their black servants and field hands. The talents displayed by this book that were shown by the black workers are very illuminating. Mr. Rutledge always has wonderful stories about their lives, his and theirs, together through the years.

This is a heck of a good story about a war front area not written enough about. Not a real ongoing war but very realistic and well written like everything else by this author. The relationships between the ranks was spot on.
A good story with a swiftly moving plot. Story is both believable and plausible. Technical data is detailed, but not overwhelming. Good insight into the developing situation.
