Normally I cannot remember the books that I read. I have this growth on my brain. But I do remember that this book is like westerns that used to be. It is one of my favorites.

Poco was his name. Being an outlaw was his game. He stole when he wanted. He killed to stay alive. And stealing gold from a man he hated was going to be easy, but getting it back was the hard part. Luke Short writes about the west as authenicatively as any who ever put pen to paper. And the violence depicted in his work is most likely how it really was in the 19th century. This title dates from the late 1930's so is early in his career, but it displays the kind of prose he would later expand upon, and the type of book he would write his entire career. Not the best, but certainly better than anything being published today. Traditional, to be sure. Perhaps that is why I like it.
